GrapeApe 10 #13 Posted January 16, 2012 Apparently bored with trying to force schools to become academies against their wishes, Michael Gove has now decided that he wants to waste £60m of taxpayers money building a new yacht for the Queen. As if there were ever any doubt that 'All in it together' was just a meaningless soundbite, this just goes and proves it. This isn't just out of touch, its a deliberate two fingers up to the people who are losing their jobs and having services cut - taking taxpayers money and making sure it stays with the already wealthy ruling elite. What a joke this is. Totally out of touch.
 Share this content via...
perplexed 10 #14 Posted January 16, 2012 Those rubber lips of his must have developed due to all the intense sucking up he appears to do... Should such a vessel ever be built, we can reasonably be sure it'll be "Her Majesties". Until it needs an expensive repair or refit, then it will belong "to the nation..." Conrod 10 #18 Posted January 16, 2012 And someone will be along in a minute and say the usual.....this is the politics of envy.Strange, seeing as that's exactly what it is. It's also inaccurate. Rather than taxpayers' money, the project would be funded through private commercial donations and the plan is to set the vessel up as an asset for various uses including youth development and to make a it a (I quote from Radio 4 this morning) floating university. Paid for by business donors from across the Commonwealth - already a Canadian consortium has offered £10m - not the taxes of bitter left wingers (most of whom probably pay little or no tax anyway). Conrod 10 #21 Posted January 16, 2012 Having said that, 60m isnt a lot to blow on a fancy boat these days. No, it's rather frugal really. People get excited over it because their politics cause them to resent one of the main users - funny how you don't hear many people comlaining about spending billions on a over-inflated sports day though. taxman 12 #23 Posted January 16, 2012 Lets all just remember this thread next time the usual suspects come on here claiming that the country is bankrupt, there's no money left, Labour spent it all, we need to cut lolly-pop men and libraries etc etc
 Share this content via...

If you're referring to the Olympics we can all see that lots of people have been moaning about the cost and not just on these forums either. The question is why can't you see that?
