NorthernStar   11 #337 Posted August 12, 2011 Double felted on the inside sounds a bit dubious to me, and no ventilation  Yes, put slits in the felt in a criss cross shape directly below your vent tiles and think about the through flow of air, it needs to be done. It is possible that you could be opening a can of worms but the sooner you do this the better. The felt is not there to keep out the weather and if you do have roof leaks you need to know this before the rot sets into your rafters and laths.  If you have any doubts I suggest you get a roofing specialist to take a look, poor ventilation in the roof space can cause all sorts of problems. per1 Â Â 10 #339 Posted August 12, 2011 Im new to this site. Just wanted a bit of advice please. Ive had a nightmare with my loft insulation, roof sweating, due to the roof being double felted and no air vents being in place. However after months of waiting I have now had 4 roof (tile) vents fitted and fresh loft insulation has been laid. I'm just worried now that the roof vents will not be effective due to the roof being double-felted (on the inside). Should I make some slits in the back felt to ensure air flow Or would this be risky? (Thinking why has the roof been double-felted? was there a leak?). Not sure what to do or whether the work that has been done by the professionals will be effective enough to stop the sweating. Please advise. Â When you say double felted do you mean 2 layers of felt together or is one layer on the topside of the rafter and one layer on the underside? The firm that fitted your vents should have cut through the top layer below the vents. Before you start cutting any more felt I would phone a roofing company for a quote/advice.I,m busy myself but there seems some decent guys on here. Hope this helps. paul_scholey   10 #341 Posted August 18, 2011 Jo Jo and Supergran - R Wilson sounded positive until your two posts. Both of you joined the Forum in July 2011? Both recommending the same company just a couple hours apart? I am not against supporting friends/family. My apologies if I'm off beam here, but being a cynical sort you've raised my suspicions. Regarding supergran99 and jo-jo 123..... the only posts that they've made on the forum have been recommending r wilson.  Just a little bit suspicious and sounds like a very good reason to avoid.......... bread   10 #347 Posted January 15, 2012 I'm looking for an honest roofer to fix some missing slates in the short term and possibly a complete roof replacement somewhere down the line. So far, my experience has been poor - either the roofers don't even bother to show up to give a quote even though they know I've taken time off work to wait in for them or they are so obviously overcharging that I'm not going to be using their services. Any recommendations for a good roofer would be very much appreciated!
 Share this content via...
