thermalboyz Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Hi all, i am new to this forum and looking to move in Sheffield. I've put deposit with Martin & Co and awaiting for Credit Check finish. Just wonder how long does most estate agent takes for completing Credit Check? I am thinking about 3-5 days max, correct me if i am wrong. Reason i asked is i already given my current landlord move out date and if Credit Check delayed until after my current landlord, i wont have place to stay.
retired Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Credit checks can be done in hours but in some cases they may be waiting for such as your employer etc to get back to them with the relevant information.
Hippogriff Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I don't want to hijack this thread, but it seems to be asking what experiences people have of agents and any other recommendations... has anyone had personal experience of Home To Let, a Sheffield-based company, with a site at http://www.ahometolet.com/ either as a tenant or landlord? Any objective views would always be helpful to me and, therefore, appreciated.
thermalboyz Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 ok, finally moved in. Could say Credit check took 1 wk. Called them everyday to chase, my experiences with M&C since that time was not good and their customer Service was the worst I ever seen. Anyhow, if anyone thinking about Martin & Co, think twice and check their review across the country (ReviewCentre, ALLAGENT). Hope this helps others.
swandancer Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 HI, glad you're in your place now, not surprised to hear that Martins customer service is bad. I am now renting a nice flat locally with a private landlord, a very savvy guy, took us on trust, didn't have to pay hundreds of pounds to be searched, just paid the bond & 1 months rent in advance. Been in his property for 13 months and we're all happy. It's a pity that so many rental properties are managed by these agents. I think it's high time that there was some sort of statutory regulation as to fees prior to renting and the level of service tenants and lanlords can expect.
garty Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I use D.G lettings, and am very happy with the service. Ring david on 07976871145.

Unfortunately not all landlords can or want to be full-time property managers, so the use of agents is necessary. I do agree that tenants should not be charged unnecessarily, since the agent most certainly have charged the landlord for tenant finding services. In fact in Scotland they have introduced such legislation, though no idea whether that is good or not for the market in the end.
