skinz   10 #61 Posted January 9, 2012 I can understand someone being scared, but you can't just stand there and watch someone die. I don't understand why first aid isn't taught to every child at school as part of a standard education  Once you've been taught the basics, which I agree should be taught to children as compulsory, you then have to persuade children that not everyone on thier back lifeless is a pretty sight..so be prepared, just from a teeth/gum perspective.  There are some damn ugly skank muvvas out there. aelfheah   10 #62 Posted January 9, 2012 Beneath the serious message about learning to treat a heart attack sufferer, Vinny's appearance in the recent British Heart Foundation's advert is his usual funny-menacing hardman act.  "Press on the sovereign!"  I thought that the backing song, Stayin' Alive by the BeeGees was due to the song title, but I heard a Cardiac surgeon on radio saying that the beat of that song is exactly the correct rhythm to perform the resuscitation to! Bladesman   10 #63 Posted January 9, 2012 I like the advert and I think it gets an important message across rather well.  Although not sure you should get hold of a body you prepared earlier.
 Share this content via...

NightFlight   10 #69 Posted January 11, 2012 Compression only CPR, as per the video, is associated with better outcomes for the patient when performed by the lay person than traditional CPR. because; 1. If the layperson knows they don't have to kiss the dead body in front of them (they are dead at this point, so have a go, you're not going to make the situation any worse) they are more likely to start CPR rather than umming and ahhing over whether to crack on.. early CPR improves chances of survival.  2. People are slow at giving rescue breaths, having assessed numerous FAW course practicals, the amount of time it takes the average person to stop compressions, tilt head, pinch nose make a seal, and deliver two breaths and get back to compressions is shocking. Time off the chest, ie. not doing compressions, is a major determinant of CPR effectiveness, so by cutting out the time of the chest you improve the persons chances.  Yes, full traditional CPR is better, but compression only is much better than nothing at all. felix24 Â Â 10 #70 Posted January 11, 2012 I'd read that the movement of the chest up and drown through CPR promotes enough gaseous exchange to keep the patient alive, and the current thought is that fast and regular chest compressions is vitally important to survival. Â Â that's what I was taught on my last first aid course - what they're saying now is that at the moment a person stops breathing - their blood is already full of oxygen as they were breathing just before they dropped... therefore chest compressions alone will still keep their major organs alive until help arrives, or the come round
 Share this content via...

janie48 Â Â 95 #72 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) i think most of us would agree that the advert delivers its message effectively with the purpose intended, and also agree that the ideal position would be to attain First Aid Training. We need to take into account though that periodic refresher courses are desirable in order to acchieve the best performance. As is required for the Health Professionals in the practice of Rescusitation. Edited January 11, 2012 by janie48
 Share this content via...
