jodyallen Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi everybody. Please Please Please, I do know it's the last thing you would dread!! But... if your dog or cat is missing please report it to DMBC, RMBC and Sheffield City Council giving full details, full description, collar, chip info etc. I work at the Pet Crem at Doncaster, whilst I do not want to bad mouth local councils... I do appreciate they are busy and i am biased but I have had bad experiences especially yesterday, they do try but are not passionate about missing pets... I am extremely busy and there is just me front of house BUT I make it a priority to check every single RTA that comes to me. I have many brought to me and they are never claimed which is heartbreaking... Everybody on this forum are extra special caring people.. Please contact your local council and email me details on jodyallen@pcsonline.org.uk We collected from Sheff City council :- 5 x cats 23/12/11 and today 2 x dogs and 1 cat. Like I said very sad experiences, especially yesterday... disgraceful and my heart goes out to the families involved. If I can help in any way please let me know. Take care
midgecat Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 what a difficult job for you jody ......... thank you for caring
hodgepig66 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Just curious are you issued with a scanner, to check the pets that are unfortunate to come to you....
jodyallen Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Hodgepig, I have a scanner, however it is only on temporary loan, I have a local fantastic vet that gives me details when i do get a chip number.. Councils are supposed to check for chips but very sadly that is not the case all the time and they don't have to check as it has not been passed by law, not for the want of trying...

Sorry to say i think that is outrageous that you are not supplied with one,as part of the job you do......It goes without saying that the very nature, how the pets have ended up where they are that many owners are not aware of what has happened to their pets.....Your job must be very hard and at times frustrating......
jodyallen Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Hodgepig My job is indeed very hard and frustrating beyond belief but the reality is alot harder.. sometimes I locate owners but not often.. the laws relating to pets and RTA's are disgraceful. Especially yesterday with Jake.... that was beyond words..If only.. This forum is outstanding and full to the brim with caring, compassionate animal loving human beings, we can only do what we can. Take care
steely Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi have you by any chance had a tabby in from the Eckington area, she is microchipped, nearly 6, spayed, shorthaired and of medium build. Thanks, we just want to know either way.
nicholls5 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Hi Jody - Thank you for all you are doing and to bring this to the attention of us all. I envisage when a loved one is missing, we are often in awe in whom to contact when we loose one of our animals. I know the contact number if your dog if missing is quoted as – Sheffield area - The environmental services - 0114 273 4567, but I am unsure of the Rotherham and Doncaster numbers. If anyone knows the numbers, Please let us know and I am sure the mods would be able to include this and your E mail address In the Sticky on the lost/ found page at the top of the interest forum. Does anyone know what actually happens when they are called. Are they still taken to the Olive Grove Depot (for sheffield) and where is it for Rotherham / Doncaster ?- I had thought that this is where they were stored to see if anyone claims them and this is where they check for micro-chips. Is this the case?. Does this still happen? Can anyone enlighten me. Jody, a million thanks for letting us know that there is a caring soul being there for our loved ones if they are involved in an accident, this I am sure would be a big help to those who have lost. Nix
Rainrescue Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Jody - is there a way that we could publicise the dogs and cats that you find? I know you are passionate about what you do - people like you are hard to find - many take the wages - but aren't passionate - thats what makes the difference. However, we need to find a focus to improve the situation to ease your pain and frustration - what do you think we can do to help the issue.
smudge74 Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Hi Jody, I just wanted to say that my 10 month old kitten was cremated by PCS on 20th December and I am really grateful for the service we received. The wooden casket is lovely and she was returned to us very promptly. I can't imagine how hard your job is, but it's good to know that my little baby was looked after by people who care. Do you know how much the scanners cost? I'm wondering if there is any way we could raise funds to ensure you have one of your own? It is devastating to lose a pet in the first place, but not finding out what happened to it is totally heart breaking
