Bloomdido Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I have found something that looks like a game install with loads of sub folders that I don't have permission to delete. The security tab says I do but no boxes are ticked and I can't select any options or add any users. Does that make sense? I have never understood security options in Windows 7. Any ideas?
mart Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I once had a folder many years ago in “My docs” on Win98 that I could not delete. I had to copy all the other folders (that I wanted to keep) to a spare drive, then delete the documents folder.
Bloomdido Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 I have enough spare drives to do that but it is a last resort. Might even try to get rid of it in a DOS window.
TaxiBaz Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Try deleting the contents of the sub folders first. Yoy might have to do this file by file in each sub folder. Then delete the sub folder. I don't know why this happens if your admin of your own PC. But I have known it happen
Bikertec Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Try googling a program called unlocker that deletes stubborn files and folders.
howden Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 MoveOnBoot will delete it. Free download http://emcosoftware.com/move-on-boot
Bloomdido Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 Ta for the advice. I will have a look at the software options. I am granted permission to open the root folder but I am not allowed into the many sub folders.

Hi, You could simply boot via safe mode and delete via windows explorer. If this fails, delete via command prompt using del fioldername /f Regards, A
sccsux Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Boot from a Live Linux CD and delete from there.
