lidl and morrisons both do quite acceptable bread for around a quid. what exactly is the problem?

Baxters in Crookes do Kingsmill for 99p - perfect.

Where are there any of these "Pound" Bakeries then? Are they a Lancashire thing?

My problem , if you wish to call it that, is that I eat quite a lot of bread. I take sarnies to work. I am informed by someone who knows about nutrition, that there is a vast difference between good bread and not so good bread. As I am eating quite a lot of it I would like it to be good stuff and am prepared to pay more for it.

Try Beanies on Crookes Valley Rd or Zeds at Nether Edge :)

Most of us eat too much bread

I do try (then fail, then try again, then fail again) to buy less but better quality bread. I should bake my own really but time is always an issue and a breadmaker always seems like "cheating"

It amuses me when people say "oh I tried (whatever) bread and it was rubbish, it went off in a couple of days!". That's not rubbish. Rubbish is the stuff that is still edible after a week, it's so full of preservatives etc

Proper bread goes off quick

Perhaps the Pound bakery's bread is okay, given that it is a half loaf for a quid. Never tried it so can't really say.

I'd rather pay the 1.65 I do for a small loaf and skimp on other things, than pay a quid for rubbish!

It is an illusion that your £1.65 gets you a better loaf than one that costs £1, at least from a health point of view.

Me too. Bread is our staple diet still, McDonalds just think that it isn't.
