E-Man Groovin Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Pop "2012" into your favourite internet search engine and you'll find no end of leftfield theories relating to the end of the world and suchlike. Also, if you spent too much of last year watching the TV news, you may by now be convinced that economic armegeddon may soon be upon us. Therefore according to these (somewhat outthere) views, this may be the last new years eve that we'll all celebrate, and in that case it might be wise to make it a good one! With this in mind, the folk from Groovin' 4 Grown-Ups are helpfully setting up shop at The Washington on the 31st December 2011 from 9pm to around 3am. G4G bring the house party vibe, as in small, intimate, warm & good natured. It's a retro thing; the best of dance music from 1930 to somewhere around 1979. Expect to hear mambo, ska, calypso, rock & roll, jump blues, 1950s swing, 1970s reggae, soul, jazz, bossa nova, rocksteady, and anything else that moves us at the time. There's a theme, and this year it's... "antique beach party" so dress up to jump up. Shorts, sarongs and sunvisors all welcome. And in keeping with the economically wobbly zietgeist it's free to get in. Yup that's right, zilch. So if the Mayans pulled off the amazing trick of being able to see 3000 years into the future, or if Robert Peston's gloomiest forecasts come to pass then at least you'll have memories of a great party to take with you. And if they're wrong, well then maybe we'll be able to do it all over again next year...
