KaylaK Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Can anyone help me? My brother and his wife are splitting up. For the past 3 years they have been permanently fostering a fantastic 8 year old boy who has become a huge part of our family. We are really worried that because of the split not only will my brother lose his access but so will we as his family, does anyone know what happens in these circumstances? What will my brothers rights be and what will our rights be?
jan2002 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I would suggest that your brother and his wife talk to the social worker. when friends of mine split the foster kids stayed with he woman, but she was the main carer. They found the social worker very helpful. J
Bludragonfly Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I'd agree with the suggestion to involve the social worker - there main priority will be the wellbeing of the child and will want to make it as 'painfree' as possible for him - which hopefully will include still seeing the extended 'family
Grandad.Malky Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 How does permanently fostering differ from adoption ……… if it was meant to be a permanent situation wouldn’t the same rules apply as if the child was their own ……. I hope it all works out for both of you.
