Missing Xmas Post ?

It's always like this at this time of year but has been particularly bad this year. Royal Mail set up their own agency to take on temps and it's been an absolute shambles, the temps haven't been paid and probably won't be until after Xmas.

It doesn't excuse stealing but you can see why there is no incentive for the temps NOT to steal when that is the case.

No i do not see a lack of incentive for them to not steal. Thieves are the lowest of the low.:gag:

I am in S12, so not too far away....

5 days for a 1st class birthday card from Chesterfield, however overnight for a 2nd class wage slip???

There are a million and one reasons why this can happen. A lot of mail issues arise with handwritten addresses, where the machines misread the postcode.

For example, a lot of mail for Stevenage ends up in Rotherham because the postcode SG1 gets identified as S61, and vice versa.

Also incorrect spacing of the postcode can cause issues. Eg S6 1AA is identified as S61 when written as S61AA.

The package to be delivered to STannington from Amazon has come this morning... Now I'll be able to play Xbox 360 in the Utility room :D

4 separate items bought and paid for on ebay (Christmas presents) despached on 14th-15th Dec and not one has arrived. Someone apparently bought me a book from amazon for Christmas a week or more ago, no sign of that either.

As mentioned on a previous post i work at royal mail for the Christmas period, we process tens of thousands of letters every day at the sorting office, I have only seen one item of money in nearly 5 weeks and that was duly handed in so please don't tar everybody with the same brush. Sending money in the post is foolish, along with poor wrapping (seriously Christmas wrapping paper, tesco carriers, very flimsy brown paper are not suitable). Not using the post code, bad writing, red envelopes, especially written on in those stupid metallic ink pens, all slow up the process.

My bold.

Posted 2 cards last night, stuck them in the post box at 4.55pm

Cheap red envelopes

written on in silver

They made it, unopened, to London, for 9am today :)

I'm in S1, by the way.

I got a package today, that I bought on Tuesday, but, 3 items I bought from the same seller last week haven't arrived as yet!

yup, we understand all this.

still does not explain why 5 out of 6 parcels i sent at this time a couple of years ago did not arrive at all. but i understand why the sixth arrived crushed and split open, it was because someone at the post office had looked inside and found nothing of great value and sent it on its way.

i presume this is down to the agency thieves that the post office employ at this time of year.

all the parcels in my mailings were extremely well packed as always. the recipient of the sixth sent several photos of the damage including one of the boot print on it.

as for your excuse of badly wrapped parcels, the blame lies with the postmasters who accept parcels in this state. they used to insist they were properly and securely wrapped and oblige you to buy brown paper, string and tape from them and wrap your parcel securely before they accept it.

and while we are at it.

mail staff delivering "sorry you were out cards" to people who are in. and saying they dont have the parcel with them when challenged.

i think they should refund the postage on these items to the people who have to collect their parcels from the sorting office. this would compensate them for their inconvenience.

why not have evening deliveries? not such a big step, after all, morning post arrives in the afternoon!

mail staff stealing money from cards has been well documented on TV.

if staff are not stealing money from cards then the post office is robbing people who receive cards that are a mite too big for the post office liking.

friends and family are robbed when they are charged a huge fee because the sender has not paid the large letter stamp and the recipient has to pay the difference plus a handling fee.

STOP PRESS !! PAGE 2 OF TODAYS STAR VINDICATES EVERYTHING I HAVE SAID ABOUT THE STATE OF THE MAIL SERVICE.

would love to see the moderators delete page 2 of the star for telling it how it is.... well?

One of them deffo had money in, one other had a cheque. Sorry to hear others have been stolen from, its about time the royal mail took steps with their staff, its very wrong.

Im just wondering how you expect them to do this - ask they're staff to hold up their hands if they have stolen something? Perhaps issue lie detectors at the end of every shift or maybe do a full body search before staff leave? I'm just curious because everyone goes on how Royal Mail should do more to stop the thieves but I just wonder how they're going to be able to stop them completely since thieves are rarely honest & admit to it.
