Contact lens problem.

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Had an absolute nightmare at the weekend and ruined the only pair of lenses i have.

My eyesight is terrible and I've worn hard (gas permeable) contact lenses for over 30 years. Really lost without them.

I have an appointment today at the opticians but don't hold much hope in getting sorted before Xmas.

Anyone know of an optician who keeps any sort of 'emergancy' spare lenses in stock ?

(i know that its highly unlikely they'd have anything near my prescribed lenses but id take anything near as a temporary measure for the time being).

Many thanx

I can tell it's bad - you've posted this twice! Is it double-vision you're suffering from?

I don't know how long it is since you went to an opticians but I'd be amazed if you couldn't get your problem solved before Christmas. Most opticians can turn stuff like this around in 48 hours max.

If both your eyes are similar (in terms of prescription need) then you could always buy some ready-made specs as a standby. T J Hughes do a range of really cheap nasty ones for about a tenner. So what if you look a pillark for a few days? At least you'll be able to see who's laughing at you!

Seriously, good luck in your quest to find some lenses. If the first optician cannot help then go to a different one who can.

At worse they should be able to sort you out with some glasses at a reasonably close prescription until they can get lenses sorted. In terms of contact lenses they prefer using soft lenses now and tend to have some in stock dependent on you prescription and eye size. Unfortunantly I find the soft lenses much harder to use than the G-P ones, because they are much bigger.

Any decent Optician should be able to get your prescription before Christmas.

The larger ones such as Specsavers will have a stock in their store.

 I to used to wear hard lenses but times move on . Am sure you could be sorted out with some soft lenses .Acuvue do a new lense called True Eyes they are made out of silocone [ I THink ] I get my lenses from Asda at handsworth they charge 15 pounds for consultation and then free checks for life They are cheaper than E/bay and you will never have any problems again that will not be sorted out straight away . You could have gone in this morning and they would have given you some emergency lenses free of charge

Doubt you'd get them before xmas. I recently updated my GP lenses and was gutted I had to wait two weeks! He said that the GP one's are better for the eyes (which I knew as I had problems when I used soft ones) but everyone wants soft so they do not keep many GP ones is stock.

They stopped giving the 'wear these until your perscription ones come in' as they are not cleaned to the standard that they should be for another wearer to use. (This is what I was told.)

Just out of interest, what happened to your lenses? And don't you have some specs for spare?

Maybe it's worth trying disposables now? They're pretty cheap these days (especially if you wear them in combination with specs ie not every day), you don't ever have to clean them, and I'm sure you could be sorted out with some straight away if you're a standard kind of prescription.

Good luck.

Specsavers have always been able to help me when I've done something to my glasses, usually within a day

Have you had a look on tinternet? I get my lenses from contactlenses.co.uk, they are brilliant, if I order one day they are on my doorstep the next.

Don't know if they stock hard lenses though or if you have an unusual prescription you may struggle but might be worth a look around, there's several website that deliver.
