Hairyloon Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Considering the other thread is so popular, and, IMO asks the wrong question on the poll, I thought I'd bang out another one. I don't know if it is possible to lock the thread and still leave the poll to run? That might be sensible.
Crayfish Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Actually I don't care too much about the location of Occupy Sheffield. Occupy Liverpool though, they've parked right in a popular parkour training area (fountain). So inconsiderate.
Sir Enoch Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 A more sensible location for this eyesore would be Blackstock Road!
Murphy Jnr Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I don't think this poll is any better than the previous, less so in fact as its already been established that they are not a popular addition to the city centre.
shphotos Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 I think that there is a lot of complaining without anybody actually looking at this compared to other Occupy events. Sheffield's is not exactly the biggest one in the UK, why should it be such a problem? The Cathedral isn't exactly helping matters by constantly throwing tantrums. If you look at London's Cathedral there seems to be a lot more help and a lot less back stabbing. The protest the other week from people in unions unhappy about their wages and pensions was absolutely massive. It halted traffic, caused more noise, occupied waaay more space placed signs against the cenotaph. All of these things people could have had a good whinge about but they didn't mind. I certainly didn't mind. The Occupy movement is protesting for issues much higher up the scale that will most likely effect everyone of us. No-one liked it when the government committed fraud and claimed all those expenses on stupid stuff. Well the occupy movement is standing up to that and similar incidents that come back on the general public to fix when we didn't have a say in it in the first place. Each to their own. I know a lot of you cannot stand the small occupy sheffield for your own reasons but to be honest i personally do not find them offensive as i can honestly say it would be hypocritical of me as i am not impressed with the governments spending habits. Nor am i impressed that banks have gone out of business and we lose money because they risked the public's personal hard earned cash and messed it up on a gamble etc etc etc.
Squiggs Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-16266631 In particular "We will carry on as long as we possibly can," said Mr Harvard. "If we can find a better site, we will move there but we won't go away." Suggests that Occupy Sheffield aims to find a better location anyway so the poll is kind of redundant. I believe that the current location was chosen almost in conjunction with Sheffield City Council, insofar as they were given a list of places that the Council would rather they avoid - Barkers Pool quite rightly given Armistice Day was due to take place As far as what I think, I can't vote because "mostly indifferent to the location" isn't available as a choice
ampersand Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 "If we can find a better site, we will move there but we won't go away." which begs the question - how do you define better, and for whom? I haven't voted as I'm apathetic to where the protest might or should be (as my mum would say, "a pathetic what?")
Hairyloon Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 Yes, perhaps I should have included an option for that. I don't see a way of adding it in I'm afraid.
richkent Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 This isn't a protest against the church, so why set up camp there? Did the council also offer land outside buildings of other faiths?
Badlittlepup Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 This isn't a protest against the church, so why set up camp there? Did the council also offer land outside buildings of other faiths? Exactly. Incidentally I've been watching the other poll and I suspect that there has been some manipulation of the figures on that. I would be interested to see how many voters only have just joined on that poll... Every time the support dropped to a certain level a flurry of votes all at the same time would bump it back up to 40%, funny that....
