big one   10 #1 Posted December 19, 2011 Hi i have a horsefield tortiose hes around 2yrs old i havent hibinated him due to fear of him not waking up but hes not eating either. He has a full set up with heat lamp but at the minute he just goes into his digging area and stays there, he does have a wander around now and again but not much is this normal behaviour for hibination time
 Share this content via...

adelrose   10 #3 Posted December 19, 2011 Is his heat variating, maybe due to a draught? Has he got uv light too during the day? Have you bathed him then tried feeding after the bath? mine eats more after a bath...If his heat in his viv isnt constant, he may try and hibernate. As long as fresh food and fruit is there for him and fresh water and his heat source constant, then i guess he will eat when hes ready. is he having his vitamins? carpetviper   10 #5 Posted December 20, 2011 Make sure that he is getting a constant temperature if they have dropped he may be trying to start the hibernation process himself. I would start initially checking the temps it might be a requirement to get a bigger bulb and a thermostat to regulate the temperature. carpetviper   10 #7 Posted December 20, 2011 Pretty much what i said  Sorry I didn't see you suggesting using a higher power heat bulb and a thermostat. I did however see you mention temp fluctuations but no help on how to solve the possible problem
 Share this content via...
