Thanks and Merry Christmas Royal Mail!

Maybe the term scum is overused but its all I can think of to describe people who steal at christmas, and yes my mum/sister should have sent them recorded, but I don't agree with people using recorded delivery for prevention of theft. Surely with all items sent through Royal Mail customers should feel assured its not going to get nicked - recorded delivery should only be used for instances where it needs to be proven when an item was sent and delivered to meet specified deadlines, not because its a safer method of posting! We will be filling out the online form to start the process but have been told there is obviously no guarantee.

Do n't hold much hope for RM doing anything. My wife ordered 2 gifts for me from Amazon last Fri to be delivered by RMSD on Sat , she received 1 but not the other. She phoned RM with the tracking number to be confronted by a rather snotty woman ( unprovoked an uncalled for ) saying they had no item in their system with the tracking number provided. She then contacted Amazon who said " if RM had not received the item there would be no tracking number generated" . I know who i beleive :(

There was another thread on here covering a similar instance. In response someone more familiar with the workings of the mail service suggested that the machines used for sorting are responsible for a high number of envelopes being opened as they are rolled through. As a consequence items are released from their semi-safe haven. Seems feasible and believable though its possible that somebody is up to no good.

Can't imagine why these items aren't caught in a trap somewhere but maybe they are, what happens after that I don't know.

I think the word scum is overused.

envelopes that are damaged by the machines are put into a box and collected by someone from damaged and vague office they will try to sort who the owner or recipient is and send them on,as for the coupons that were lost it is possible the envelope was torn and the contents fell out these would be taken to the same office but they would not be able to find the source..as to what happens then i'm afraid i don't know, casuals yes it's possible there are some bad eggs but catching them could prove hard, but believe me Royal Mail do prosecute and the thieves recieve a very stern view from the justices and are mostely jailed....

i have never had this happen to me thankfully, but i would like to say a big thankyou to a royal mail parcel post delivery driver from woodseats office.

3 weeks ago i had a parcel sent to me and i never recieved it, it had no return adddress on it, and was sent back to the sorting office to be classed as un delivered as i live in flats and couldnt gain entry to put card through door.

i rang the sorting office and was told it will have been sent to belfast to be opened as they dont keep them at the local office this long.

in other words say goodbye to it as it is untraceable now, as there are thousands of parcels and they will not be able to find it.

when i had another parcel delivered yesterday i asked the driver about it and he was the one who couldnt deliver the missing parcel.

he said leave it with me and i will find it hopefuly at woodseats office as it should still be there!!

low and behold, today he had searched for my parcel and found it and came out of his way to deliver it to me.

obviously the staff in the office just couldnt be bothered to even look for it,

yet he walks in there and finds it straight away,

great guy, STEVE , a big thankyou and merry xmas,

I was told thqat even if you send recorded delivery, if it is cash/vouchers and it goes missing, you have no claim, it has to be sent special delivery, costs about £5. I sent some garden centre vouchers to a friend, and all was well, perhaps I was just lucky, They were sent recorded

depending how much you pay for special delivery, it insures items up to either £500 or £1000, and is guarenteed to be delivered by either 9am or 1pm next day,

If you are going to send cash or vouchers in the post, you have to make sure there is PROOF that it was ever there in the first place. Otherwise any tom dick and Harry could claim there was a £20 note in their envelope that has gone missing.

The only way to proove it is by using the SPECIAL delivery service that has been specifically set up for the sending of CASH and VOUCHERS. if you don't recieve it at the other end, then you can make a claim on the insurance that every special has.

If you don't bother to use the correct service, then there isn't a lot Royal Mail can do.

I think it's almost certain that this has nothing to do with your regular postie - and I also think it's a bit unfair to label them all as scum.

I used to think that until I found out that the b*****d was burying them in the woods!:suspect:

i was once sent a small parcel with £2 in it which was a postage refund and the corner had been ripped open and the coins were gone, got to have been royal mail staff, also a big thank you for playing football with my expensive boxed aftershave which they managed to dent even though it was smothered in a ton of bubble wrap.

sorry but have to concur

at my old address for which i lived for over 5 years no post ever went missing unless it was a parcel or hand written white envelope ( looking like a card etc )

tried to rationalise this several times so one day sent myself some post as a test one in brown envelope printed one in white one hand written

sure enough got the brown one not the white one, same post box same sorting office same postie

also had same postman sometimes leave parcel in blue bin with no note( could've asily been bined) sometimes pout it through door without signature this fiddling it when recorded mail, and sometimes taking it back to sorting office...

you go figure

since moved had no problems at all!
