Pink2Bubble Posted December 18, 2011 Posted December 18, 2011 Sheffield Forum eventually saw off Phoenix in the 2nd half on a very cold Handsworth Rec. Changes again were forced on Forum as keeper David White was injured, Phillip Gill was ill and Nathan Jenkins started his 2 game ban. Joe Neate is still out whilst Ryan Lynch was unavailable. Adam Smith covered in goal as Forum had a bare 11 for the game. Unfortunately, there was also no referee for this fixture. When the teams arrived at Handsworth, there was doubt as to whether the game should be played. The pitch was frozen over but teams agreed to see how it went in the early part of the game. It was a slow start to the game as Forum struggled to find their rythm but did have chances however the ball seemed to run away from the forwards as they kicked downhill to start with. Phoenix failed to have any clear chances in the first half, Forum the same although the few efforts on goal came from a corner. Just before half time, Shane Middlebrook should have put Forum in front from 7 yards but failed to connect properly. HT: AFC Phoenix 0-0 Sheffield Forum Second half, saw an improved performance but it was Phoenix that took a surprise lead with a shot heading over the Forum keeper. Forum came to life after the goal and needed that 'kick up the arse' as they then rallied eventually finding an equaliser when Ashley Matthews won the ball, took it forward before shooting from 25 yards, the ball flying into the top right hand corner of the net. Sheffield Forum added a second when they were denied by the first shot, ball broke to the corner of the 6 yard area, was but back in the middle and Kyle Dowling finished with a smart over head kick. Andy Coates made it 3-1 as Forum kept going, a Daniel Sheedy corner met at the back post by Coates for his first Forum goal. Phoenix then pulled a goal back, a quick break led to Forum being caught out and the score was then 3-2. Forum then finished the game off, Kyle Dowling running on to an excellent through ball from Daniel Sheedy, Dowling then going past 1 defender before netting for his second of the game and Forums 4th. A fifth was added again from a Daniel Sheedy corner, this time met at the back post by Ashley Matthews for his second. Forum had other chances with Matthews having a free kick head just wide of the post and a header saved. Middlebrook had a shot towards an open goal deflect just wide with more attempts from Ashley Proctor and Coates failing to cause any problems. Forum keeper Smith had to make 2 saves, one strike heading over him at pace and a close shot down to his right. A much improved second half performance and during the first half, it was clear one Forum goal would lead to many more. Unfortunately it didnt come in the first half but after Matthews wonder strike, the confidence came back and Forum hit 5 in the last half an hour of the game. Forum now head into the 2 week Christmas break and are due to play FDL Totley at home on 8th January as their next game, hopefully taking the last half hour today, into the first minute of that game. Next match report will be in 2012 so Merry Christmas everybody and we wish you a Happy New Year.
