sportsvoice Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Just got a phonecall from a friend of mine, he's just finished a saturday shift at our firm down neepsend and the gaffer has kindly donated 2 tickets to Hillsborough as a reward for working the saturday before xmas weekend and as all the owls fans already have tickets he's asked me to go along so i'm now sat on the tram on my way up for a pre football pint. I'm actually looking forward to the game, if the game is half as good as the hype in the build up on TV and stuff then it should entertain and deliver. As I said in the title the main thing I hope to clarify is whether Wednesday relly are Hoofball as you all say or whether they get the ball down, but never the less I'm off to see two top of the league teams so hope to see goals.
alex3659 Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Nice try SV but all the owls know you're really in Bournemouth for the weekend.;)......
TAT Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Enjoy, should be a good game..with the hype and pre match talk of 30,400 gates and 5-0 Owls wins!!!! If it all appears pear shape, head for the Barrack Tavern..great beers. I say 24,500 and a draw.
sportsvoice Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 Ha Ha Ha Of course Alex, I couldn't think of anything more pointless that spending £100 plus to go and see league one football in Bournemouth! lol Was gonna go up home for the Swansea match but working monday and tuesday and then travelling up for the game wednesday night against West brom, staying up for Xmas and going to bolton on Boxing day then coming back the day after. I'm disappointed that we got poo teams around xmas so imagine how I would feel having to watch Bournemouth and like.
sportsvoice Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 They are all tight as a ducks backside Ladybirds therefore unfortunately can't see me budging them from the bar at Wetherspoons which disappoints me as I can imagine extremely busy and poor beer from rapid barrel changing is on the menu.

sportsvoice Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 What a great game of football that was to watch, thank you both teams for some great entertainment and football. I will settle something first and foremost, I don't think Sheffield Wednesday put the ball up in the air more than the average football team, ok they did at times but also played the ball around on the deck very well too. We entered the ground 5 minutes late and Huddersfield were on top, The Owls didn't start the game too well at all, looked nervy and Huddersfield always looked likely to capitalise on it and did, I don't know who the target man was up front for them but if your talking long ball then this has to be a fine example of it as Huddersfield pretty much hit him and others poached off him. After going 2-0 down Wednesday were by far the better team however, great football allover the park, they impressed me most with the different threads around the pitch, the didn't seem one dimensional but instead had 3-4 threats from different positions in the final third which confused Huddersfield no end and they couldn't handle them. It's hard to credit a keeper who conceded 4 goals but Huddersfields shot stopper Bennett was for me all that stopped wednesday netting 6 or 7 goals. I left at 4-3 and thought wednesday had won it, walking down towards KFC I heard a roar and thought Wednesday had scored again in all honesty but found out in the pub that it was a late equaliser which was rediculously late (added I heard Owls fans in the pub questioning where the stoppage time came from, I could also question this). Very fierce derby game, a good few naughty tackles coming in, some very good passing football from both teams. Ben Marshalls goal was sheer class and what a good player he looks. Shakey defending cost Wednesday in a game which they started very poorly and conceded 2 and then became complacent against a top young striker in Rhodes (he's going to end up in the top flight for sure). They have to feel hard done by as I thought they were great today and played some quality football, they dominated the majoriy of the game and looked very dangerous going forward.
hurstyowl Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 well summed up, united fans like to think we play nothing but hooooof though, and its funny so let em continue. you should copy and paste that in the matchthread.
SpecialPG Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 shouldnt have took marshal off for bennet, after that we sat back and tried to absorb the pressure, with marshal running at them they were kacking themselves and were holding in thier own half , Prt from a dodgy ref i think that was the only thing i dissagreed with, good game for a neutral fan, feels like a loss to me, now i know how united fans felt when we came back in the derby match

Emotions must have been all over the place, it reminds me of a couple of games with Man Utd at your place many many moons ago. Also with the Blades and west ham.
