TheGuy Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I thought it was funny at first, but on reflection there's nothing funny about authorities enforcing what is a ridiculous state sanction.
melthebell Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 being an old punk rocker i feel blessed i could live my "life" easily theres a lot of countries around the world where people risk their lives and liberty to follow their own musical likes. i used to have an old tv documentary called "punks in prague" they had to climb into a squat to thwart attacks by both nazis AND the police whether its dodging being killed by far right nationalists or locked in prison by the authorities theres a lot of hardcore countries its harsh to follow. same as i have a documentary about a heavy metal band in iraq, also a harsh way to follow your dream

melthebell Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 That's insane. Do you know the title of the one about the iraqi metal band? In the late summer of 2006, in the middle of the insurgency, filmmakers Eddy Moretti and Suroosh Alvi traveled to Baghdad to meet and interview the only heavy metal band in Iraq, Acrassicauda. "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" is the story of the band and its members, young Iraqis whose lives have been distorted and displaced by years of continual warfare in their homeland. The filmmakers have collected glimpses into the struggles of Acrassicauda as they try to stay together and stay alive. Their struggle is the untold story of the hopes and dreams of an entire generation of young Iraqis link here to IMDB its a great documentary if you can find it.
