Black bins to go fortnightly?

Recommended Posts

As the wheelie bins are twice the size of the original metal bins, theoretically they should only need emptying once every two weeks.(And that's not taking into account any recycling which was unheard of in metal bin days). Also, how can the bins smell when they have a lid???!!!(apart from when you put rubbish in!)

I remember the metal bins too, we also had a coal fire to burn most stuff rather than bin it. What you'd call a kind of recycling was the rag and bone man:)

Well has anyone worked out the maths regarding so called savings?

Twice the rubbish, therefore around half the distance before back to base to empty it, thus if they spend double as long going and returning from base with empty lorry.

So are they actually saving money? Half the men working twice as fast, going to the base twice as much? Surely it is more about making people accept their betters know best, and the savings will at best be minimal, due to twice the rubbish.

In a culture where people need to be reminded to accept the word of authority regardless of the actual merit of the message, which in this case is questionable. It suggests the authority is attempting to soften up the public to start to accept being dumped on in a variety of ways, rubbish collection being the first.

Who got us into this mess...the banks...who is causing the loss of jobs, businesses going bust....the banks...who is attempting to take any choice from our lives the banks, and please do not forget their corporate lapdogs, who want to run the prison services, NHS, education the DHSS and the rest. You are the goose that lays the golden egg, the tax from wages, which the banks through their corporate friends want.

So maybe its worth looking a bit deeper than a two week bin collection, as sayihng it saves money is not the same as it does save money. Heard of creative accounting? Well its just a way of scamming playing with figures to make them say whatever you want them to.

So were the binmen when they used to come and take your bin from the side of your house, carry it to the big wagon and bring it back after emptying it .

They were what i call "Proper binmen"

You're blaming the banks for wanting to reduce the frequency of bin collection, and you think it's some sort of subversive means of preparing the public for other changes. Weird.

Can anyone actually work the maths out, or is Maths just not your thing? In order to get what one wants some offer the less informed a deviation, take their thoughts for a walk. So while the dears are thinking and discussing, one empties their pockets. Its what business is all about these days.

Your bins are as interesting as the rubbish you place in them, the idea is you are outraged, the reason is saving money, and as you cannot do the maths you accept as given, it being a sensible thing to do under the circumstances. Who wants to be outed as THICK? So through saving face you get on board, you know sod all, threrfore agree to do what you are told is the right thing to do....SAPS!

We live in Derbyshire near Mosborough and our black bin has been emptied every 2 weeks for the past 2/3 years or so and 5 people live in our house!!! We manage, our bin is usually full by the 2nd week, we have to recycle everything !!!!!! ( We do have a very attractice big purple bin for this, which is emptied every 2nd week and a green bin for garden waste, again every 2nd week ) I think it works for us !

Council officers estimate these costs would be at least £500,000 and potentially more than £1,000,000. This would negate much of the £2.4m Labour councillors claim would be saved next year if Sheffield moved to a fortnightly black bin service.

ENDS

So by this you're agreeing that they'll save £1.4m next year and £2.4m from then on?

I'd say it's quite a sensible decision then.

But all this while planning to only open the dump it sites 3 days a week -thus taking away the only other legitimate outlet people have to get rid of all the excess rubbish that will build up thanks to fortnightly collections.

All this is a recipe for an explosion in fly tipping ,as that will be the only other way people can dispose of the bags and bags of rotting rubbish that isnt being collected .

The council havnt really thought this one through properly .

To cut bin collections in half and close the dumps for 4 days a week is asking for trouble.
