Old Poem

Recommended Posts

I have a '' Love Letter '' sent to one of my ancesters , along with photo and phone number. It was sent ( delivered by hand ) at least 50 yrs ago . What I'd like to know is was it self penned or a verse from a well known poem . It's title is '' MY WISH ''.

MY WISH

I wish you Health ,

I wish you Wealth ,

I wish you '' Gold in Store ''

I wish you '' Heaven after Earth ''

' And ! Let me wish once more.

I wish that tear's may pass you by ,

That, '' I'n Your Heart '' You never sigh ,

And, '' I'n '' That heart to Alway's Be ,

'' A Place ''

That is kept Apart

By You

'' For Me'' !!!

Ahhhhh, nice.

You know, Carlwarker is good at poetry. What's he up to these days? Haven't heard from him in a while. If it's an old poem, he might know something?

It dates back to at least the mid 1800s and is a dedication - the kind of thing people used to write in autograph books of family members/friends who were getting married or going off on long journeys etc. It's typically Victorian in sentiment and possibly has no known author (although I'll stand corrected on that). I've seen earlier versions of the one sent by DUNKS which read "I wish you heaven after DEATH", which kind of fits in with mid to late Victorian taste
