Israel is in danger of emulating its worst enemies

There were democratic elections in Gaza (in 2006); Israel didn't like that so they committed mass murder in 2008/9 to get rid of those elected by the Palestinian people.

There were elections in 2006 which Hamas won. However they then attempted to wipe out the Fatah opposition (and suceeded to a large degree) in 2007. This then led to later conflict with Israel. Hamas are an armed terrorist gang and whileever they cling to power of the people of Gaza that area will not know peace or prosperity.

Why is the Rafah crossing still not open ? - why are the Palestinians still being besieged by Egypt on one side and Israel on the other ?

They have no links with Israel because they keep attacking Israel. As for Egypt, ask the Egyptians.

As each day goes by, it seems this is actually becoming a reality. Israel, once an apparent democracy, now just looking like it's neighbours (and even worse).

Or was it always like this ?

It would be appropriate for the leadership to ensure that the present system of shutting its eyes to what is happening does not bring us to a track characteristic of the rise to power of authoritarian regimes.

What? This a joke? Lot wrong with israel as with many civilised nations. However to compare Israel with it's enemies is just daft. It's like comparing heaven to hell.
