metalman Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 This horrible crime is going undetected according to the Star. And just for when they correct it, it's spelt burglargy in the title; proofreader's day off again evidently.
nexusdee Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Well let's face it they don't do anything when you give them the name, address & where the goods are stashed so how do you expect them to be able to do anything when they don't know
DerbyTup Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Yep! came home one night to find a big hole in the front door - door still locked shut. Once inside noticed that the telly had gone. Which tells me the hole in the door was at least 37" as they took the telly through it. Nothing else nicked at the time though. So it seems like they knew what they wanted and had planned the raid - which makes it even more disturbing. No-one was ever caught as far as I know.
rapido Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Yep. I've been burgled twice. 1st time I goy bach at about 3am and knew somebody had broken in. I was terrified and the lovely taxi driver who brought me home waited with me until the police came. The police were really nice too. The 2nd time the police wouldn't come out but said they'd register it for insurance purposes! I was really shaken up for weeks on both occassions. I knew that logically, it was unlikely to happen again and that the burglars were after my stuff and not me but logic just seemed to fly out of the window at the time. It had a huge emotional impact on me......I didn't even have anything worth nicking!

Same here, they took my expensive mountain bike and laptop, they knew it was there and i know who took it.The Police sgt who attended accused me of lying about the bike, as he couldnt believe they got it through the hole. The hole was 28inch, the bike frame size was 18 inch, tyres 26inch. i think any 10 yr old could figure that out.
ChrisT70 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 its the one crime that really does upset people and alter their lives, and the burglars have very little chance of being caught, and even when they are get sweet fa. my parents lost numerous sentimental items of jewellery and electronic items (about 4k value) and the guy when eventually caught (2nd or 3rd burglary offense) got £100 fine of which not 1p has ever been repaid, and a thinking skills programme attendance of 10 hours plus minor community service. if it was a first offence fair enough, but he was a known criminal with previous convictions for the same.
verona Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 The courts will find any excuse and go to extreme lenghts to keep the offenders out of prison because the prisons are at bursting point. The offenders know this and unless they have been caught at it twenty times or more, they will not get punished. If no one gets hurt in the crime then the courts couldn't care less. So they get locked up and the next day they are out at it again. Sorry but that's the way it is. The country is going to the dogs.
HarrietStar Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 been burgled twice at our old flat. The first time goods to the value of £1000 and a credit card in 2007. the second time it was a phone and a wallet with £50 in it in 2008. I think the police were excellent on both occassions. the problem was the courts - whilst they prosecuted the burglars, both times the courts gave them community orders or suspended sentences and ordered them to repay us and also to pay costs, but at a rate of 50p a week because they were on benefits. We've never seen a penny of it.
Dimitri 11 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 22,000 burglaries over 3 years in Sheffield is scary. I didn't realise the figure was so high! I've read before that if a criminal steals car radios from 20 cars parked in the same car park, it classes as 1 crime. Does anybody know if the same applies to a burglar robbing x amount of houses in the same night. If it does then the figures are even more scary or is this an urban myth? I have had a look on google but I can't find anything concrete and the match is starting soon
cgksheff Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 If they can't keep a simple web page up to date, nor get letters out correctly, why expect them to police correctly.
