laurajill Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Help! So I have two cats. I've always used Frontline on them but it hasn't worked on one of my cats the last two times I've treated him with it. Chico is on the big side, and I'm finding huge adult fleas on him. I've hoovered everywhere but it's not helped. Not seen any live fleas on the carpet or furniture just on Chico and not the other cat. Don't really fancy having to pay the vet to tell me I need to use another flea treatment so has anyone got any advice that I can do next? Thank you in advance!
ParkyJ Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Did you get it from the shop or the vets? cause i was told if you dont by it from the vet its not the best stuff becuase you have to be licensed to sell the strong one. I would speak to your vet and ask there advice as to what to use and a house spray to.
teeny Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I had a simular problem with my dog last year we just changed to another vet perscribed one and used flea bombs in our house and have had no problem since
Moonbird Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 There does seem to be a bit of a problem with fleas becoming a bit resistant to Frontline IMO, lots of people are finding that its not killing the fleas as it used too this year.
laurajill Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Is there anything else I can use? Had a quick look on the net and 'Advantage' is coming up with good reviews.
libuse Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 We had an outbreak a couple of years ago (although with dogs, not cats). As well as the Frontline we got a spray from the vets called Riddex. We hot washed every bit of washable soft furnishing and fabric in the house, and replaced the dog beds and some of the curtains as well. Everything then was copiously sprayed with Riddex. The house was like a production line for a couple of days, but it did work and we've not had the problem since. Good luck!

laurajill Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks for the advice, but not seen any on carpet of furniture they just seem to be on Chico. Will phone the vet tomorrow for some over the phone advice.

I hadn't seen them anywhere else either, but the vet told us that (I think) they lay eggs in fabric/soft furnishings, so if you only treat the animals it doesn't solve the problem. There was a specific temperature that we had to wash everything at to make sure it killed off the eggs (ugh, I'm itching just remembering it!)
