mr scott Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Hi everyone I have a talented 15 year old Daughter who sings and plays guitar and she is looking for some experience playing in front of an audience. She has played to small groups in the past and even at pub open mike sessions before. It seems to be dificult however to find venues that will let under age performers take part. Does anyone know of any regular open mike sessions in sheffield that we could go along to that would allow a 15 year old to perform.
just jammin Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 i run an open mic night in various pubs where she would be welcome , you can get details on my F/B page or on here under musicians.. also a good friend of mine(russ) runs one at the horse and jockey, wadsley lane, he is a great guy who will welcome and help her.she may need backing tracks unless any of us know the songs she likes to sing..good luck,, mick
alex3659 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I have been to open mic nights that allow children to sing and it ruins the event, I'm not saying the girl in this thread is not talented but it does encourage hordes of parents who think they have the next winner of the x factor to swamp the events.

Yeh, and I have been to karaoke nights where adults screeching out of key down mics to the predictable drone of some take that crap have emptied the place faster than a double enema. As for my daughter the last time she played to adults in a pub they were that impressed they had a whip round and she made £35. Not a bad return for three songs. Can I suggest that if your evenings are ruined by the attempts of children (or young adults for that matter) to entertain you why don't you try your local residential home for the elderly as I am sure they enjoy a sing song now and then. As for pushy parents, some are pushy and some just know a thing or two about how to encourage their kids to achieve things in life. My thread was to ask for help not for shallow comments about something you seem to think you know something about but obviously do not. Have a think how my daughter feels now you made a comment about her without even hearing her first. I am trying to help her build her confidence and you say that she is likely to ruin your evening should you have the misfortune to be entertained by her. You should post an apology to this remark asap and hope that one day you are fortunate enough to find yourself listening to her and you will be sorry for opening your gob and sticking your foot in it. As for the x factor you can stick that in the same place you can insert the emema. thank you for your "support"

Blue Day Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Many thanks for your reply I will follow your suggestions. Could you tell me what night the one at the horse and jockey is. Thanks Jockey one is every Thursday. Doesn't usually get a big crowd in so she'll not be too nervous, but those that go in are very supportive.
mr scott Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 thanks for that we'll try it out either this or next week
