Joeycrew Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Have a look on You Tube . . there are lots of people offering guitar tuition for nowt . . some are better than others though ! Don't buy the first guitar you see . . if you, can take someone with you who can can play a bit to help you make a choice. You need to learn the basics first and then its Percy Veerance ( Barnsley's finest guitarist).
Sillysod Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 check out justinguitar.com, its one of the best websites ive come across to learning to play. I would recommend checking out some of the beginners lessons that teach you a couple of chords and the basics of strumming before you goto a guitar techer. Try and get 3 chords down (I find A, D and E the easiest to play and switch between) and learn a song then find a teacher. The reason I say this is because getting those 3 chords and a bit of strumming is the first hurdle, and it will take you time to get your hands to physically make those shapes, something that no guitar teacher can hurry along, and I dont see the point of paying 15 / 20quid an hour to watch you practice the chord shapes.
Susil Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Megan I'm a guitar teacher, based in S10 (near 52 bus route, if that helps). Silly's advice is generally good. It is quite easy to get into some bad habits early on - sometimes this doesn't matter much, though sometimes it can cause muscle problems and the like. Most teachers will help you avoid common early pitfalls If you're interested in any lessons, drop me a line here by PM and I'll pass on prices and more details. Ta! Ian
