Getting rid of desk top icons

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of some desk top icons ! I have got too many and want to get rid ! Thanks

Right click and delete

Just delete them as most are just shortcuts and aren't really necessary and if not sure when deleting it will say if its a shortcut.

 

You could also drag the often used ones to the taskbar at the bottom and then delete the desktop ones.

Errrrrr......It depends what they are!...If they're only shortcuts to files or programs stored elsewhere then that's fine to delete then as advised above. But if they're pictures, word documents, or program files in their own right, deleting them means you will actually lose those files. So be careful!

 

If you don't know if they're shortcuts or 'proper' files. Right click -> Select 'properties' and it will tell you if they're just shortcuts or other types of files.

Create a folder called "miscellaneous" and put them in there.

 

That way you're not binning anything that might be vital.
