FoxhillSteve Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Does anyone know if the free car parking in town for Christmas is on this year ?
Strix Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 though if you drive a hybrid vehicle then it's free anyway
dawny1970 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 this is sheffield council, dont be silly, they don't want cars in the city centre!!
Strix Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 "women in Sheffield don't want posh frock shops" - I think that sums it up. If you're not going home by bus with your poundland tat, we don't want you in our city centre - bugger off to meadowhall instead
Albear Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I thought it was free parking at the weekends to encourage people to shop in the city centre but its not because i got a parking ticket crrr!. However from now on i will stick to shopping at Meadowhall where you can park for free!

Planner1 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Rotherham has free parking on a weekend lol So does Barnsley. Sheffield also has free parking at weekends, but it's only on Sundays in Council car parks and on street parking bays.

High bus fairs, expensive parking, not really a recipe to help regenerate our town centre
Planner1 Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 how about helping the town centre and the shops instead of killing them. High bus fairs, expensive parking, not really a recipe to help regenerate our town centre Most daytime bus services are operated on a commercial basis (ie for profit) by the bus operators. They can charge whatever fares they like. Neither the Council or SYPTE have any influence on this. Parking isn't expenive here compared with similar cities and the majority of parking provision lies in the private sector, again who charge what they like. I have't heard that other major cities are offering free parking on Saturdays in Council spaces. If you make the Council's parking free on a Saturday, who will actually benefit? The people who work in the city centre arrive well before the shoppers, they would be the ones who would fill the avaialble spaces before the shoppers arrived.
