SAR1974 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Hi I live near Leppings Lane in Hillsborough and am struggling to find a decent quote for home insurance. Despite getting reports from the Environment Agency outlining the work which has been done in the area since the floods, the quotes are still really high. Just wondering if anyone else in this area, or other areas of Sheffield affected by the floods, have managed to get a competitive quote from any particular insurers. Thanks
Africanqueen Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I would also be interested to know as was looking at a house in that area but worried about insurance costs
Ducky1 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Give Andy at ring at Fletcher Smith Insurance bottom of Wadsley Lane 2333175 they can get insurance for that area but would possibly exclude flood cover.
DaisyBoo Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 i live at cornish place in a flat on the 3rd floor. no one would insure me due to the flooding even though it is impossible that my flat would ever be flooded finally managed to get contents by premium nature save, its £11 a month.
neeeeeeeeeek Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 You say high, what do you call high and what sort of property and cover are you after?
SAR1974 Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Our property is a mid-terraced 3 bedroom house. Wanting standard buildings and contents insurance. The quote we received from Fletcher Smith (our current insurer) this year was approx £300 higher than last year - taking it in excess of £550. Shopped round a bit and quotes have ranged from £520-£900. Not insured at the minute so need to find someone sharpish - I was hoping that others in this situation may have found an insurance company that can offer a more reasonable quote. We are not even that bothered about flood cover but we still are not getting any joy.
neeeeeeeeeek Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 All insurance has gone through the roof, try John Lewis, it's who I am with. They were never cheap but it's a really good policy. Also try Chris Knott, they are really good and I have had my car insurance with them for years.
carol green Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 when they decided 2 years after the floods they decided we was in the range now so our insurance doubled we did all the searching on line and there was no one offering us it cheaper we are stuck.
patto Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Got quoted hundreds excess for flood risk last year. Asked them to look up my address on google earth as I live halfway up the "mountain" towards Crookes. Said they had to charge because I lived in S6 and S6 on their records had flood history. Changed providers in the end. Try someone who has local history, they may be sympathetic.
qazitory Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I live near to a stream which is classed as a 'flood risk area'. More Than insured me as long as the area hadn't been flooded in the last five years.
