My brother and his girlfriend had a cat follow them home earlier tonight, that had previously been spotted wandering around for quite a while.

It appears to be a fairly young (but not quite a kitten) female, although we are not 100% how to check the sex.

Will print off posters in the morning and check for a microchip at vets.

She is very friendly to people but not really to cats or dogs (and we have both), so we can't really keep hold of her for too long..

If you think this could be your cat please PM me with a description so I can verify. She is quite distinctive..

Can you load a picture up in photobucket and get a link up on here?

Also - look up rspca sheffield lost and found - then report it as 'found on there

well done for taking her in if she's lost bless her

Would you recommend a picture? I know that with dogs people have been quite wary of giving too much info so thats why I haven't but I can try to get a pic.

I've filled in a form on the rspca lost and found but its not gone up yet.

Problem is I don't know how long we can keep her here because she doesn't seem to like our cats or dogs. It might just be because she is in a new place though.

She is such a friendly cat, and purrs like crazy :) I am a bit concerned that she could be either slightly injured or pregnant though, going to see if the vet will give her a quick check when I go to see if there is a chip.

Took her to Springfield Vet. They couldn't find a microchip. They had a look at her to see if she is pregnant but they are unsure. It is possible but if so it is still very early on. They have made a note of her in their lost and found book.

I have put up a poster at the pet shop in Firth Park, and I have also posted a couple through doors on the road she was found on that I know have cats.

The vets said she doesn't look like she has been lost long. It is possible that the bad weather and winds have disorientated her. My dad saw her following someone up the road she was found on earlier yesterday, and then later that night she was meowing at my brothers girlfriends door, so maybe she just couldn't figure out the way home. But then she followed them back here and came in the house and was reluctant to leave...

The vets have said it might be a good idea to just let her out, and see if she makes her way home. I don't know what to do to be honest because a few cats have been run over around here recently, and with the weather and winds I am wary.

Any advice?

Yeah I will for as long as I can (my mum isn't very happy, says we have enough animals in the house and we aren't a shelter).

I was quite shocked they suggested it with this weather (and the fact that she might be pregnant), but at the same time it made a bit of sense. She has probably gone outside, followed someone cos she is so friendly, then the wind and everything has probably disorientated her.

Hoping someone comes forward soon.

Well I've had 2 responses so far but neither description matched her... Sad to think how many people out there are missing their pets based on what the 2 contacts said, and posts on here.

Surprised nobody is claiming her yet though. Really really hoping it is just a case of 'she goes out a lot, she will be back soon'.

In the meantime I think I have managed to persuade my mum to let us keep hold of her for as long as we need to.

Will probably take her back to the vets near the end of next week to see if they can see if she is pregnant (although her stomach doesn't seem as swollen now and she isn't as fussy if you touch it) as we would like to be certain and not have any surprises.

To be honest and I'm sure it wont be popular but...I would let her out and see what she does, if she stays then fair enough but she might also go home.

Its a nice day today so nothing to worry about with the weather, where ever she came from they obviously let her out so she will be used to being outside, and if she does find her owner she will be let outside again.

So it has been over a week and we haven't had anyone contacting us about her :(

I went to Springfield Vets yesterday to ask about checking to see if she is actually pregnant (which I am starting to doubt because she doesn't feel as swollen anymore, and she isn't as bothered if you touch her stomach area), and the possibility of spaying her.

I was told there is a £30 consultation fee, and was then given the number for Cats Protection to try to get a voucher for a discount for the spay. The problem is that because I am not on any benefits, I might not get one and if I do it will probably only be for a small amount from what was said.

I called the number yesterday afternoon but there was nobody available so I left a message, so far nobody has contacted me back.

I want to get this sorted asap really, but could definitely do with the voucher because even though I am working, it is only a part time job (all that I could get) and I have 2 dogs and 2 other cats to look after.

Plus they could start the operation and find out she is already spayed or something, so I would rather not have to pay the full amount to just find that out..

Does anyone have any advice?

I really do think that this is someone's cat she sounds well cared for, maybe step up with the postering around the area that she was found? young cats are notorious for naively following people home and getting themselves lost.

It just doesn't seem right to be neutering and keeping/re-homing someone else's well cared for cat, what are you planning on doing with her once she's spayed?
