Julie Dore needs your help. She’s sent me a letter asking me what I think she should do. Resign would be a good start but in the spirit of good citizenship here's something more positive. To save her the trouble of ignoring all the individual replies why don’t we package them up into one helpful reply and she can get someone to read it out loud for her? Then she only has to ignore one thing. All councillors will also receive the link to read for themselves (for those that can read)

 

I think this thread should be less of a debate and more of a wish list from all you folks out there who have an opinion.

 

 

So here you are JD. You asked for it

 

1. Do you have any comments on what I have said in this letter?Yes

 

I am not a resident, comrade, I am a citizen.

 

Be honest for a change, the government told you not to raise Council Tax. If you had your way it would have gone up at least 4%.

 

Your car parks bring in less money because they are too expensive and too restrictive.

 

What do you mean you’ll continue to provide modern and efficient services? I was wondering when you were going to start.

 

Business friendly? Is that what IKEA thought?

 

 

2. What Council services do you think we should protect?

 

None, they should all be scaled back except perhaps mental health services.

 

 

3. Do you have any ideas or suggestions that would save the council money?

Yes

 

1. Nobody at SCC should be paid more than £60k.

2. Get rid of the fat cats like Mothersole, Sharp and Bann and don’t pay them a penny in severance.

3. Don’t pay anyone made redundant a penny more than their statutory requirement

4. Stop paying Councillors expenses. If they care they’ll happily do it for free

5. Councillors should not go on alleged “fact finding missions” at tax payers expense.

6. Stop putting money into Sheffield City of Sanctuary

7. Stop putting money into Sheffield Renewables or any other “green” idea.

8. Stop putting money into anything that is not required by statute.

9. Stop wasting money creating and publishing plans like “Stand Up For Sheffield”

10. Stop pouring money into SYPTE

11. Renegotiate the Veolia, Keir and Crapita contracts to start getting value for money for a change

12. Get rid of the PR department

13. Stop paying the union organisors

14. Merge back office functions such as payroll and HR with other councils

15. Collect ALL outstanding council tax and rent arrears.

16. Stop wasting money on exercise programmes for people who are too stupid to stop eating and smoking.

17. Stop ALL translation and interpreting services.

18. Get rid of the licences, permits, planning requirements and all the other bureaucratic nonsense restricting business activity

19. Stop giving money to charities and voluntary groups and community groups to waste.

20. Get rid of the Health & Safety Police who have little else to do but make people’s lives difficult

21. Sack all traffic planners just for the Woodseats debacle

22. Sack every planner who is just sitting around dreaming up schemes there’s no money for.

23. Stop employing consultants and temporary staff. 12,000 employees should be more than enough.

Perhaps it would help if all the councillors did not except the extravagant fees they are payed if as they say they do the job out of love for our town.

I agree with quite a lot of your thoughts Jim. But just a quick one, Councillor allowances are very low anyway (see http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/councillors/councillors-allowances), but there are way too many in the Council that are over paid at the top end, and i agree with a cap in a city like Sheffield.

 

Id also like to add how we want our City Centre to look over the next few years. With more and more shops leaving the high street (due to the internet/spiralling rents etc) i believe the Council need to look at what do we want from our City Centre and make planning and developments from there.

Right here we go . Julie dore useless person of all mankind sack her that's money saved their . Then sack rest of fat cat office humping management . Get rid of councillors more money saved . Middle management sack them more money saved. These fat cats even julie dore all on ridiculous wages aswell as the other leaders . 80.000 upwards plus bonus do they live on breadline I think not . The people that work on the streets cleaning maintaining them and also carers get next to nothing so julie dore crawl back to ur cave with the rest of ur ridiculous money wasting ideas and step into real world . I have had a look at these expense sheets and most seem to claim around £12,000 plus extra,s.

One ex leader seems to have accumulated round about £30,000. hardly modest for a part time job.
