ptrA Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 We took friends to the Copthorne for Sunday lunch. Alarm bells rang, we were the only ones there. Some other friends went for a family lunch there last week and nothings changed. Nice place, pleasant staff, shame about the dining experience. Say no more.
Wigtwizzle Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Going here for a xmas do soon - hope it's busier than you experienced!!!!!
DerbyTup Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Why would anyone want to go to a 4 star chain hotel for Sunday lunch? I just don't get it. These kind of places only exist to provide basic business lunches for busy executives that want to eat and get back to work again quick. They don't do good food. You'd have been far better off going to a nice pub - even a carvery chain pub like a Toby or Crown carveries would be a better bet than this for sunday lunch - and I'm no fan of those either. You were given a strong clue by the fact that no-one else was dining there - that ought to have told you something didn't it? on the busiest dining out lunchtime of the week? I'd love to know what was behind that choice of place to dine?
daniel3982 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I've stayed in the Copthorne a few times but never eaten there as London Rd is around the corner so why pay a fortune for something so bland! Was that the 1855 restaurant though as someone told me it's suppose to be a really posh restaurant, but I just can't imagine it being so.
Riccardoh Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 We've been a couple of times, when it was a Carvery it was really good. But then the last time we went they were just serving it up from the kitchen and it was awful. I didn't think the service or atmosphere was very good either, I honestly don't want to eat Sunday lunch with my elderely Grandma whilst having to listen to Hallam FM blasting out all the latest Teeny bopper hits at full volume.
Lozza23 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I tried to ring Sunday to book but was told they are fully booked for Sunday lunch till 15th jan

I'd love to know what was behind that choice of place to dine? I don't think that is entirely fair. If you read the menu (scroll to the bottom & click the link - http://www.millenniumhotels.co.uk/copthornesheffield/restaurant/index.html) you would expect good food. Certainly in the past I know that this place was very keen to sell the food side of things. I have been once and I admit that I didn't really enjoy it.... but not because there wasn't any good food, just that there was too much going on with the food (so much that the chef seemed to have forgotten that diners need to enjoy eating the food, not just the work that has gone into it). We certainly weren't served food for 'busy executives that want to eat and get back to work again quick'.
