If only life was as simple and staright forward as you seem to believe it is.

Have you ever heard of a man called Adolf Hitler ?

Yeah, name rings a bell.

Are you comparing a relationship breakup to the Holocaust?

My brother in law was unexpectedly taken from us this year, in an industrial accident. After years (nearly a decade) of toil and hardship (messy divorce, job dissatisfaction, bouts of depression and much more), and as we'd "propped" him all along, everything was finally going right for him.

New 'proper' job with tons of career prospects, good pay/hours/perks, only just got engaged, both sets of kids doing well. He only got to enjoy a few weeks' worth of "life high", probably never even realised what had happened when he passed. No choice. Whatsoever.

I've been doing the 'practical coping' for the family ever since (re. funeral, paperwork, HSE & CiD liaison, estate, etc.), because they still can't cope at all, months after. Mrs in floods of tears every now and then. Same with M-i-L and fiancée, and not easy with kids. Understandable of course. Dreading Xmas this year, tbh... I'm rambling, but at least some readers who haven't been through something like this, get to read a tiny bit about "what happens after" (an untimely death).

So, whilst I may have discussed the matter with a more open mind in other circumstances...After that experience, too close to home, I just cannot condone suicide as an option, no matter how desperate/adverse the circumstances. In the end, the candidate suicidee has a choice. So many other people, who would never once consider suicide for a variety of reasons, don't. So don't throw it away.

Funny you should mention that!

Life is tough, but for some not even rewarding enough to make it worthwhile.

Towton may I ask are you feeling a bit low? if so could you maybe visit your GP to discuss it? If not I apologise for getting the wrong impression and wish you well.

Ultimately it's the individuals choice, but I would guess it's hardly ever made of sound mind or on reasonable grounds.

I could understand someone who has lost their whole family in some accident or terrorist attack and after a struggle to keep going, decides to end it. I would say that's justifiable and probably even logical.

Suicide goes against human instinct, which can only be overcome with some sort of mental trauma or religious indoctrination.

I tend to have little time for those that commit suicide over a relationship breakup for example. Nature's way of culling the weak.

Comments like this are more a trolls way to wind up the gullible.

No one can be that sick and still posses an internet connection.

Thanks for asking, Curriechick.

Like most others at this time (recession, Xmas, personal strife) I am treading water, but this thought crosses my mind more and more, yes.

Whatever do you mean "something else" ?

A good friend of mine committed suicide some years ago ,this seemingly happy go luck man who was to say the very least was very popular.

Unfortunately there was a darker side to him and that's as much as i would want to say. When i said just depression then if there is to be an option lets hope it's that for GS family,I'm fully aware depression is an illness and there are other things that become an obsession.

I am worried about you Towton, I tried to pm you yesterday with no luck, if you continue to feel this way, please seek help, go to your GP, I know from personal experience that they can help with medication in the short term and maybe counselling in the long term.

Hi CC, thanks I think I will. Although I don't believe in zombie-ing through life on tabs just to stop me having dark thoughts?

I don't know why my PM's didn't work though, the settings are ok as far as I can tell.
