PC monitor says No Signal

Was updating my printer drivers when the screen blinked, went to blue screen with text I couldn't read before it went blank and then screen turned off. When I turn on the pc it doesn't start up the screen, I manually switch it on and it says No Signal. Tried to use the fix suggested in this forum elsewhere but that involves starting it up in safe mode after pressing F8 at start up. But this doesn't work as the screen doesn't come on. I've tried all the cables etc. Any suggestions ? Cheers.

Pc turning on normally, sounds fine etc but can't start in safe mode (or tell if it's in safe mode) as I've no visuals on the monitor.

OS is Vista and the printer is Pixma iP4200. Was re-installing it from the cd at the time.

Try discharging the bios and reset it to default if you are not using the on-board graphics and then plug the monitor into the on-board port and boot up.

I have had a similar problem where it somehow switched from a pci-e card to on-board graphics and as the monitor was plugged into the pci-card when booting it said no signal.

It's a Philips desktop but not sure about the graphics card.

How do I recharge the bios and reset it, don't I need a monitor to see how to do that ?

if you have 2 connectors on the back of your pc that your monitor plugs into try switching to the other one, also open up your computer and remove the card that the monitor was plugged into, should you just have "onboard graphics" and only have one connector for the monitor, to "reset the bios" otherwise known as cmos, open up the computer and look at the motherboard and look for 3pins (2 will be covered by a plastic "jumper") it will be printed on the board as rst cmos or just cmos move the jumper from pins "1 and 2" to "2 and 3" for several seconds then back to "1 and 2" that will reset bios also other settings like time and date... etc

Bloody hell, computers, dontcha just love 'em !

The cable from the monitor to the pc is horizontal, but there is only one place to connect it to the pc.
