scoobz Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Sheffield Wanderers Walking Group - Huddersfield Canal, Sun 11th December A fascinating 8 mile walk which takes us along one of the best canal walks in Yorkshire. Lots to see along this one including lots of different types of locks, woolen mills, weaver s cottages and some great scenery along the way. If you are looking for a walking group which doesn't walk at a route march pace, and are interested in seeing new places, why not give us a try? This is an ideal walk for someone wishing to join us for the first time, being mainly flat all the way! Details Meet at a free car park opposite the Wharfeside Inn, Carr Lane, Slaithwaite, HD7 5AG at 10.15 for a 10.30 start. No public transport available for this walk.
akoon Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Sounds interesting. The 2 of us will be joining this one as usual.
Sassygirl Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Heard good things about this canal, hope it lives up to my expectations.
taxman Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 We'll be there, it's nice to do some walks away from the usual areas. The peak District is great but there are good walks to be done North of Sheffield as well.
scoobz Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 What a lovely area to visit for the first time, and a great walk even though we got a tad wet on the first half! The added bonus was that we somehow found a great cafe to gather in in Slaithwaite at the start of the walk, and how happy were they to get 20 odd customers as they opened!
taxman Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 It would be nice to do it again sometime when the weather is better. I didn't get my camera out today but there were some good shots to be had of old industry and locks.
