Buggz Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Has anyone else seen the amount of damaged caused by metal thieves along the 5 Weirs walk? The bridge that goes around Norfolk bridge has been stripped of most of it's metal and has now been fenced off. They've now started stripping away the barriers further up the river and also the bridge that crosses over to Effingham street. We went along today and they've removed a large number of bolts from the barriers and I presume these are now just waiting collection. They've also severed some of the support wires on the bridge that crosses over to Effingham road - Unbelievable! Pics below are from the railings just past Norfolk bridge on Attercliffe road (just below the new tesco) heading to the bridge that crosses over to Effingham Street http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Buggs/P1180933_edit.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Buggs/P1180931_edit.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Buggs/P1180921_edit.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Buggs/P1180928_edit.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/Buggs/P1180924_edit.jpg
fairyworld14 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 This is absolutely disgusting ! The flaming scumbags !
Set in Stone Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 pinched all grates covers just round corner as well other week! The sooner they regulate and start paying the so called legitimate scrap men by traceable cheque or bank transfer payments the better, should slow the thieves down a bit but someone is also buying these stolen items as well ! Don't really know the answer it's definately not even safe bolted down?
Ghostrider Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 If the police knew about it earlier, maybe they could have got prints off of the pliers...
NorthernStar Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 That is absolutely infuriating I can't believe that someone would do that and expect to get away with it. The people who buy all this scrap must know who's doing the theft and have records of transactions etc. Many years ago I worked as a tradesman and every so often I used to cash in the offcuts and old lead I had collected from the jobs I'd worked on and the scrap dealer used to take my registration number and my details before weighing in my lead, does this not happen anymore?
helhol Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 i just had a funny thought ,if you put your dog inside a car as a deterent, would you wake up in the morning with the dog on bricks and the car gone seriously now, they are thieves, end of, and wrecking our city in the process,

barmyb Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 The other wk the police were on the spare land at the side of the scrappers on Halifax Rd, they'd pulled loads of flat backs in with scrap on (scrap scrubbers I call them) I thought nice one, but how many of these vans would actually be registered, ie. none and with the amount they're making pinching other people's stuff, they'd just get their hands on another van if that one got seized.
