JoBrosLover Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Wanted for an elderly couple who have just lost theirs.
Rainrescue Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Ask them if they would consider an elderly greyhound or even a pair of Yorkshire Terriers? We have got both. I know this is going totally away from your thread (offering you 2 dogs or 1 big dog), but sometimes elderly people are much better with a greyhound - they are just adorable, don't need much exercise, the people don't fall over them as they do smaller dogs, and greyhounds have so much love to give. Just a thought. The yorkies will be snapped up no doubt real soon - there are always elderly greyhounds around.
Lotti Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Greyhounds do make great pets for elderly people. The only downside is those with a high prey drive can dart if they see a cat when out on walks. However, I agree with Rain Rescue, they don't actually take up a lot of room because they love to curl into a little ball, they are so gentle and affectionate, generally they walk lovely on the lead (particularly the older ones) and where small dogs get under feet and trip up elderly people, greyhounds don't - you also don't need to bend down to pet a greyhound which obviously is better for elderly people with bad backs. People think that they require a lot of walking whereas in actual fact a 20 minute lead walk twice a day will do them just fine and then they just want to cuddle up and stay in the warm
