Don't say it too loudly! They may well all have the Deutsche Mark as the next common currency.
xenia Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Germany got its empire, seems they are always destined to fail. Rule Brittania! Mecky Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Europe isn't a country, strange as it may seem. There are many economies within Europe, all at different levels which are trying to use the same currency and it just isn't working. A Euro in Spain may not be the same value as a Euro in Germany, where as a pound in England is the same as a pound in all parts of the UK ... except maybe Wales A single currency for different countries is bound not to work.
Grandad.Malky Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 A single currency for different countries is bound not to work. It will only work when there is a united states of Europe with equality across the board, taxes, pensions, retirement age, benefits etc ……….. that’s never going to happen so scrap the euro now.

True, but even in the UK the £ has different buying power in different areas. For instance, you can buy a three bed semi in a decent part of Sheffield for around £150,000, but take that amount of cash to the posh parts of Surrey and you'd be lucky to get a shed. In the UK there are a least two economies at play, and the one in the North depends on subsidy from the one in the South. At the same time those who run the banking/financial economy in the South have little interest in the prosperity of the North. This is one of the reasons for the decline of the industrial North. In truth, what's the difference between the relative position of the North and South in the UK, and Germany and Greece?

Are you pinching my ideas:suspect: I’m sure I said that first.

Simple answer seems to be because its "inventors" who are now our European masters deem it so. The Euro and the EU are dead, they just do not realise it yet. Long live GB and its Pound, stuff the EU and its Euro. Regards Angel.

It will be the price Germany will insist that the Euro zone counties must pay, when the Germans rescue Europe from it's debt crisis.
