Do price increases void the contract?

If a phone or broadband company announces it will increase prices during your contracted period, does this essentially void the original contract?

Hmm I imagine this will be one of those small print clauses. I don't think they (BT) actually sent me a contract.

So theoretically they could increase prices by £50 per month and that would be legal?

But there is a contract, whether written or oral.

Look through the multiplicity of leaflets that BT sent to you (or online equivalent) and try to locate it. In most (not all) cases, a written contract that allows the supplier to increase prices also allows the consumer to terminate within a month of increase notification.
