Hardline Pro Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Ok, so I bought a new laptop, but I've realised that the processor is painfully slow for what I need. I currently have a AMD E-300 1.3ghz. I'm looking to go upwards of 2 ghz, so looking for suggestions, prices, and also if anyone on here can recomend to me someone to put this in for me. Thanks in advance.
Paul Blade Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 There are a few on here who can help I recommend Ghozer a Mod This is nothing against the others but a good friend as used his company (he works for them) a few times
nubile Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Yeah, Ghozer or Neeeeeeeeeeek, both long serving SF members with a good reputation.
Ghozer Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 The problem with laptop CPU's is they often aren't upgradable, if you can find some laptops of the same range with faster CPU's, then it's likely that you could upgrade them.. the next problem, is actually sourcing a replacement CPU for the laptop, they aren't the same as desktop CPU's and aren't generally sold seperately... you might get lucky on ebay but you have to make sure it is the exact match for that range of laptops.. find the laptop range, see what the fastest CPU is in that range (get the CPU model) and look for that one on ebay and similar places.. once you have it, then it's a time consuming, arduous task of stripping the laptop down, and replacing the CPU..
denomis Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 In other words suck it up get rid and buy another

Ok, so if I was to find a suitable replacement, would you know anyone I could hire to actually put it in for me?
nubile Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 once you have it, then it's a time consuming, arduous task of stripping the laptop down, and replacing the CPU.. This is why i never work on laptops, , people just don't appreciate the time repairs can take if it has to be stripped down, and always think quotes for the work are far too high.

If you could source one (and i'd be happy to confirm it will work for you, i'll need the CPU model and your laptop model) then I could do it, but like I said, it's an arduous task to do it properly, and could take a couple of hours...

No problem, I'll have a look around, and hopefully get in touch with you. Don't worry, I'm not a bargain hunter, whatever the cost, I'm happy to pay. I'm sure you're an honest chap.
