kay1 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Can anyone give me any information about The Huts as I believe they were known as. I was born there in 1936 5B Fourth Avenue sounds very posh but from what I was told they were wooden houses somewhere between Tinsley and Tinsley Park I think the road to them ran somewhere from the back of the Plumpers Hotel on Sheffield Rd at Tinsley. I would love to see a picture of them any idea where I might be able to find one Many thanks
joinerisme Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I read a book about these,they were near Jenkin Road.Built after WW1/
scargill Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 There are a couple of threads about Brightside Huts on Sheffield History Forum, not sure if these are the correct huts. link below. http://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/5349-tyler-street-huts-brightside/page__hl__huts__fromsearch__1
kay1 Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 I read a book about these, they were near Jenkin Road.Built after WW1/ Many thanks seem to be getting nearer to finding about the area I was born. Can you remember the name of the book you were reading. It looks as if this book refers to Brightside Huts but after looking at another link it looks as though there 3 lots of these Huts Tinsley, Brightside and Petre St
me-and-pippo Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Third, Fourth and Fifth Avenue, was like member kay1 states, behind the Plumpers Hotel, Tinsley, and can be seen on 1934 & 1938 OS maps. They stood about here
skippy Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 There are some old photo's of the huts on picture sheffield.com, my family lived on the Petre St ones before I was born, and according to one of my older brothers, they were rat infested places.
