Minimo Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I don't know of one at Shalesmoor, but there used to be one on London Rd. It was the toyshop called Merrills.

denlin Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Wish I new where there was one now I've still got my dolls from when I was 2 in 1953 and they need a bit of TLC
Littlepink Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 There was a dolls hospital on south road at walkley. My grandad took my baby kiss kiss doll to have her arm repaired . She never kissed again because the arm was just a normal one but it was lovely to have her with a nice arm instead of a deformed half chewed one . It was chewed by a dog by the way not by me
Bertielil Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I was born on '53 & the Doll's Hospital my dolls went to was on Fiztalan Square.
Joanl Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I seem to remember one on Division St?......around where the fire station was/is.......
Minimo Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 There must have been a lot of poorly dollies back then. More hospitals for them than for we humans!
Plain Talker Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 There must have been a lot of poorly dollies back then. More hospitals for them than for we humans! I suspect it was because we didn't throw stuff out like we do nowadays, dolls were repaired, rather than "binned". It's like with shoes- how many "young'uns" take their shows to the cobblers, these days? They tend to be thrown out when they get a bit worn.
Littlepink Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 This thread has shattered all my illusions now! I thought my grandad was super special because he was the only person that new where 'THE' dolls hospital was ! Now I realise there were thousands of them
