Is it time that Standing concerts were banned?

Recommended Posts

Hi People,

On the 18th Nov I went to watch Rihanna live at te NEC in Birmingham as I was given 2 free Disabled Seated tickets. At the NEC it's brilliant and much better for the disabled then the Sheffield Arena as the disabled area is much closer to the stage and at the same level so your not looking down on the act.

What I noticed though was as the Standing area was right infront of me I noticed that every 10min some young lass had to get carried out after been crushed and some of them were no older than 14. I even saw an old woman who was with a young lass and both of them were getting pushed about.

There were so many people in the standing area that people kept getting pushed out into the isles but all security did was push them back in. It reminded me alot of cattle going for the slaughter.

I've also been to see Taylor Swift at the NEC which was a seated concert and there were nothing like this and was more civilised. I know the only reason they do the standing arrangement is so they can sell more tickets and make more £££.

So why hasn't H&S some in and stopped this happening? Surly there should be at least age restrictions so young people aren't getting crushed?

its just stupid young girls who should be banned, i have been to many very big and very busy trance parties on the same par as a concert and never seen anyone crushed, saw slipknot in town that was crazy busy but anyone i noticed who was obviously struggling moved to the back straight away

and from what i hear 14 yr old girls should not be going to see her anyway isnt it almost soft porn

I agree with Chris, i have been to many concerts in my time and there have only been one or two that have gotten crazy and if they have, you have the option of moving back a little. The fact is, the kids that were popping out the sides were probably doing a lot of the pushing.

People create mosh pits at gigs like slipknot which are for pure adrenaline but losing a tooth is not uncommon - not for the faint hearted. I've been involved in one or two but it's usually just a bit of fun and everyone just bumps into each other. if someone fals on the floor they are usually picked back up and given the option of getting out. Mosh etiquette if you like.. :)

There is far too much `elf n safety stupidity these days ruining day to day life without more stupidity stopping people from standing at concerts. :loopy::loopy:

I don't mean stop people from standing but if they put the seats in then people wouldn't try pushing to the front. I has a front row seat at watching people been carried out at one point a guy had a girlfriend on his shoulder doing the fireman lift i think its called just shouting "can someone ehlp my girlfriend has passed out. So they had to get her a chair

Then how would I get to the front?

Also, where would the mosh pit be?

Crowd surfing would be out, dancing would be limited, it would be sucky all round tbh.

Price worth paying imo, music is better when you're in motion, I always buy standing tickets, I hate sitting down or standing still at gigs, it is lame.

Seated gigs bore me - you have to stand, have a jostle to the front and yes occasionally someone gets carried over the barriers - It's all part of the fun! Anyone who doesn't enjoy that side of a gig would stand much further back where the pushing and shoving is much less... Gigs are normally for 18+, very few are for those aged 14+...

Perhaps they had lost the will to live. I know listening to that woman squawk for an hour and a half would send me over the edge!
