Dore and Totley station

Recommended Posts

I could be wrong; but im sure i noticed the 'leaning lampost' was like that before the contractors finished and cleared all the equipment etc away. No doubt hours of red-tape to get through to fix it, despite the fact they were still on site at the time!

The lamp post was bent by the contractors as they were packing their stuff away ... bet someone got a bit of a telling off! :)

The parking there should be pay and display. Parking on the adjacent roads should not be allowed by double yellow lining them.

The lamp post was bent before the contractors left site and before it was opened to the public, can't understand why it wasn't fixed before they left site.

Suspect that the free car park has attracted more commuters from over the Derbyshire border who would rather drive that bit further and park in a nice new tarmac car park next to the platform than park and walk down the unmade road to Grindleford station which is the next stop up the line, and of course it's cheaper from Dore on the train.

Within one week of the tarmac being laid leading to the path for pedestrians, weeds were growing through it.

Why? People should be encouraged to use the train instead of driving the rest of the way.

You sure it wasn't potatoes, onions and carrots? The new grass verges seem to be sprouting crops of some sort too ... I suspect it may be wheat. (sorry) :D

The car park is there exclusively for rail customers that have bought a ticket to travel by train. The car parking is provided free of charge.

The council have already but notices up stating they are to paint double yellow lines on all the surrounding roads.

Quite what rail passengers are meant to do if the car park is full... it is already nearing full except for the always empty disabled spaces and dropping off bay.

The station access is now much more pedestrian friendly too. The only thing left now is to get the pedestrian crossing installed so it is safe to interchange between bus and train.

It is noticeable though, now all the car park and pedestrian space in front of the station has had lots of money spent on it and looking very smart with its paving, landscaping, lighting and CCTV it shows the station itself up as being a bit dilapidated. It also seems behind the times not having real time train information displays.

Dropped my wife at the station at 8.20 today. 130 spaces were planned and all were already full. Cars were having to drive out again to find space elsewhere.

By this time there were 10 cars parked on the roadside opposite the station on the wide verge beside the alms houses. There seemed to be about 5 or 6 cars parked at the bottom of Dore Road, presumably rail or bus commuters.

The dilapidated station building was re-roofed last year and should be quite usable for the right tenant. I believe the Delhi Junction wanted to expand but the site was too small for what they'd needed to have done. It might make an all day good coffee shop, but again the economics may be against it.

When the Northern Hub doubling of the track and reinstatement of the second platform comes about, it will be interesting to see how far parked cars on Dore Road will stretch once again. The Northern Hub improvements that will have taken almost as long from inception to completion as the Act of Parliament and construction of the entire Hope Valley line, including Cowburn and Totley tunnels!
