CorkerSWFC Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Anyone else know anything about this, apparently there is some sort of proposal on the table for a new training ground somewhere ?
salmonbones Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Yep, it's no small project either. It's incorporating a training academy, several pitches, housing facility, and a 6k stand. At least one road is planned to be altered to accomodate.
salmonbones Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Anyone wanting to sniff out more info, needs to look around the Clay Wheels lane area. I've not checked if any planning permissions have been applied for, or indeed granted - but that's the area I'm told development will happen.
TAT Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Come on Salmombones !! where the finance coming from ?? you are an all knowing expert when it comes to Uniteds finance.. put up or shut up ! On a second related point, if any finance was in place, would it not be better spent on the stadium? Its looking very dull and tired, a lick of paint would not cover up its demise. But at a time MM is rumoured to be wanting out, you fabricated a 6000 seater all singing training ground! paid with what ??? the £4m from a Madine sale Maybe plans have been submitted, who knows ?? you dont yet ! but both clubs can testify plans have been submitted by both clubs for outrageous stadiums in the past, but in reality, unworkable and not realistic. What planing applications do usually offer is to fill out and add to the portfolio in any potential sale .
NERVY-OWL Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I've not heard anything about it and it seems abit overkill however we have been saying for a long time the youth system has been under funded, maybe mm has decided its betta to spend money here more than the ground.
sportsvoice Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 The Claywheels lane land has been purchased by Sainsbury's, planning permission has been granted and objections have been overturned, building on the land is expected to commence January 2012.
TAT Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 The Duke of Norfolk owns the vast majority of it. well with planing permissions for 500 houses and a Sainsburys already granted, shall we accept the Clay Wheels site is a no no .
rossyrooney Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 well with planing permissions for 500 houses and a Sainsburys already granted, shall we accept the Clay Wheels site is a no no . Some of the land is/was industrialised and would need vast amounts of money spent on remedial work. There are no longer funds available like there were in the days that Meadowhall and the East End of the city were redevoloped,so i would imagine that to start such a project from scratch would be extremely costly without grants and financial aid.

No it hasn't. The land that currently includes an old section of Fletchers bakery, The pubs known as The Gate and The Travellers and a large section of land that includes the junction of Penistone Rd North currently housing Carphone Warehouse adn a car wash are all destined for redevelopment into a Sainsburys. The rest of Claywheels lane is still prime industrial land and has valuable development oppertunites available to it....... But as a training ground for my beloved Owls, or any sporting venue I'd argue isn't a viable financial option. WAWAW.
doubletop Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Going back a few years, the owls were going to use the old Westfield school for their new training ground.
