xBox account phishing thread

As someone on here has already said, they didn't "hack" xBox Live or user details, they used phishing techniques via mass emails to trick people into giving up thier details...

it's only the same as the many fake bank based emails that are doing the rounds...

It's not the same, many people have been hit without being duped into replying to some sham email. There's been a security breach of Live or EA's database. It's been all over the internet for months.

Microsoft clearly needs to look at how easy it is for third parties to make fraudulent transactions on its customers' payment accounts, armed only with their Xbox Live login data. And EA Sports needs to take a long, hard look at whether its downloadable content business is putting profit before security – we wouldn't recommend going anywhere near its Ultimate Team Packs until it has, at the very least, put in place a means of tracking transactions that arise from them. If EA Sports turns out to have been the victim of either large-scale phishing or hacking, it needs to come clean, compensate the unwitting victims and make sure nothing similar happens in the future. Otherwise its website will become the exclusive preserve of criminals.

Hmmm, I received that email, but not at the address that live is setup for, but at another one, which is where forums are setup to??

Maybe they were scouring gaming forums for email addy's?

Again its down to people being naive to phishing scams, no breach of MS has occurred.

There's nothing in any of those threads to suggest anything other than Phishing or brute forcing of passwords - the first one even admits they had a 6 letter password.

Now that one of the well known gaming journalists in the USA has been hacked, maybe Microsoft and EA will stop spouting BS. This is no scam website/email/phishing trick, something on their end has been compromised.

Reminds me of the RROD problem where Microsoft fobbed it off before acknowledging that it was a major problem.

How long will it take Microsoft to fix it to shut him up?
