xBox account phishing thread

No different than giving my online banking password to someone through a fake banking website and then moaning my account had been cleaned out. PSN was hacked. This is not hacking. Just idiots falling for another free Live points scam. Nice misleading thread title OP, and typically incorrect information from the UK mainstream media.

In fact can the thread title be changed before we get Playslaves and Xbots going at it like 2 kids arguing about who's got the shiniest marble.

You're wrong.

Idiots have been tricked into providing their passwords after receiving a message. Its nothing more than a straightforward phishing scam.

If you want to know more, send me your email address and password so I can send you a warning.....

Playslaves and Xbots, cracking names! :hihi:

As for xbox live being un-hackable ... it's a connection/networked service. It will be hackable, just needs someone to figure out how!

So does that mean I shouldn't have replied to my long long long lost uncle muzungu from Nigeria?

Thought it was strange that he wanted my bank account details.

Or has my family tree been hacked!?!

As someone on here has already said, they didn't "hack" xBox Live or user details, they used phishing techniques via mass emails to trick people into giving up thier details...

it's only the same as the many fake bank based emails that are doing the rounds...

Just in case anyone has been affected (and please change the thread title mods!)

Following a front page report in today's The Sun newspaper in the UK, Microsoft has responded to claims that Xbox Live has been hacked, with the article stating that that certain users had been targeted by a phishing scam. The front page article was titled 'Xbox Cyber Fraud', but Microsoft has issued a statement to set the record straight, assuring that the security of the service has not been compromised.

"Xbox Live has not been hacked. Microsoft can confirm that there has been no breach to the security of our Xbox Live service," reads the statement. "In this case, a number of Xbox Live members appear to have recently been victim of malicious 'phishing' scams (ie. online attempts to acquire personal information such as passwords, user names and credit card details by purporting to be a legitimate company or person)."

Microsoft has been working closely with users affected by the phishing scams, warning against unsolicited emails and reminding consumers to keep their personal information safe and secure. Anyone with concerns about security can contact the Xbox Live Customer Service on 0800 587 1102 or visit http://www.xbox.com/security.

Its ok he was also my uncle, he is in the process of transferring me $1000000000000000000000000000000000000000, I should have it by the end of the day. He said he needed my bank details and pin to verify who I was.

I've already called work and told them to stick their job, I shall be rich very soon.
