Go to nottingham to shop

But what exactly does Nottingham have to attract people other than the Victoria Centre and that's just full of tat, chain stores and smelly, mucky people, where their odour seems to just recycle around the building - :gag:

But you don't HAVE to shop in the viccy centre - you can go out into the city, where there are umpteen higher end chains and loads of independent stores - something Sheffield doesn't have, as the council here sunk it all into meadowhall, and that place appeals to a section of society (kids generally - somewhere to go and hang about) and they've left the city empty...

I agree with you there but Nottingham shops suck too, if I was into shopping (I'm not) I wouldn't got to Nottingham to shop. That's like going to Doncaster for a holiday.:hihi:

I am guessing that independent, weird and wonderful shops don't appeal to you - that is great, as meadowhall probably needs support! But for those who want a 'one off' to wear, or a gift that you can see in your mind, but can't see in debenhams, cities that attract such stores are important...

I'm trying to think of where all these weird and wonderful shops are in Nottingham, please enlighten me.

Back of the broadmarsh, you'll find the higher end high street stores, like Whistles and Reiss - Derby Rd has some of the best vintage stores... Side streets from broadmarsh area through to castle has little independents - Hockley is only independents, aside from op viccy - back of post office has side streets with stores like backlash, and mansfield rd has lots of studenty type independents and cafes etc... You need to know Nottingham to know em all, but these should start you off! If you see a back street, get down it - something Sheffield doesn't have much in the way off, back streets off the main routes - but Nottingham has loads, and theres a shop, a cafe and/or a bar in them all :)

Fair do's I suppose if that's your bag but they're certainly not to most people's taste, scraping the barrel in my opinion. Just out of interest what's on Derby Road, I used to live just off Derby road and I don't recall anything down there that I'd travel to visit, I guess its just a question of taste but for me Nottingham is the last place I'd want to do my shopping.

But I'm sure you could find these kind of shops in Sheffield too (perhaps eccy road area), the places you mention don't seem to be anything special, shops I'd even failed to notice let alone want to but anything from.

Leeds is brilliant for shopping, they have the Victorian Quarter, Harvey Nicks and other big name stores and a great, thriving market. There are also some fantastic places to eat from Jamie Olivers which is delicious to little Italian places selling mouthwatering pizza brought to your table on huge wooden spade like implements.

It is easy to get there on the train too.

Seriously, Sheffield does not have a whistles or a reiss anywhere, not a Vivienne Westwood even! Not even on Ecclesall Rd - Derby Rd has several vintage stores, including a shop that sells things that have been sold on from theatres, so literally anything from edwardian costume through to a feathered hat and furniture shops (nash was there until recently) of the sort that Sheffield simply doesn't have - independent, interesting and not mass produced... You'd be suprised how many people like to have something fairly unique - not everyone is satisfied with M&S and Asda and Debenhams... Sheffield thinks we're all the same, and all have low aspirations in out clothes and homewares - not so, so we shop elsewhere...

Had to edit to highlight that bit - what a numpty you sound to never want anything that the rest of your street doesn't already have! I'd never understood why mass produced crap was all over Sheffield, but I guess you taught me something about some people's low standards today...
