maggidee Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 cant believe the advert on front page of star last week saying go to nottingham for all your christmas shopping, not very nice for shops that are tryingto catch as much trade as possible to survive and keep going,: with the cost of petrol or travel far better to shop local
Lady Star Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Sheffield doesn't have the shops - that's why those who live here shop elsewhere, such as Nottingham, Manchester and Leeds... The city centre has a few chain stores, but nowhere to buy a special outfit or several random gifts for a variety of people... If Sheffield had loads of independent stores, and more higher end chains, they would be used by those who currently leave the city to go elsewhere...
Eckolad Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Sheffield is awful compared to nottingham for shopping
Vague_Boy Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 cant believe the advert on front page of star last week saying go to nottingham for all your christmas shopping It's an advert, probably paid for by Derbyshire & Nottingham Chamber of Commerce. What else would you expect them to say? Keep clear of Nottingham we've got the plague? I hate to break it to you but those adverts in The Star are not public service announcements. They're paid for. Are you suggesting that The Star should only accept adverts (and thus income) based on some kind of regional bias? Clearly you've never run a business in your life.

(or Sheffield town centre for that matter)
sumayyah Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 We have Meadowhall, why go to Nottingham? (or Sheffield town centre for that matter) because the shops at meadowhall suck?
Lady Star Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 We have Meadowhall, why go to Nottingham? (or Sheffield town centre for that matter) Meadowhall is awful - full of tat, chain stores and smelly, mucky people, where their odour seems to just recycle around the building -
NorthernStar Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 because the shops at meadowhall suck? I agree with you there but Nottingham shops suck too, if I was into shopping (I'm not) I wouldn't got to Nottingham to shop. That's like going to Doncaster for a holiday.
NorthernStar Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Meadowhall is awful - full of tat, chain stores and smelly, mucky people, where their odour seems to just recycle around the building - But what exactly does Nottingham have to attract people other than the Victoria Centre and that's just full of tat, chain stores and smelly, mucky people, where their odour seems to just recycle around the building - At least Meadowhell is bigger and has more stuff to do and more retail chains.
