Well maybe (and this dose happen) the list was going down and the staff thought everyone could be seen the more emergency's came in. it happens its one of them things while as annoying as it is you have to accept the world dosent revolve around your father in law and his op wasnt as important as others waiting (even if you and he may think it is)

You're obviously confused and missing the point. Its not about the world revolving around my faher-in-law or the individual staff in question. The system is broken. The NHS is an institution that has forgotten how to care for patients. Nowhere in this country would you be told to wait around all day to possibly receive a service if you were directly paying for it - because it is not acceptable. With the NHS you don't have a choice, so they set up inept processes where nobody knows what will happen or when, until it actually happens. They could easily of arranged for him to come in at an hour's notice, but they just don't care, which is exactly why he should complain.

I'm afraid it's not possible for people to come in around an hour before their operation, because the people who would need to see them pre-op would be busy doing the lists.

Also it may not have been the case that an emergency took over the theatre from your relative, the emergency may have warranted the surgeons input, or even a post-operative bed may not have been available due the patient that was due to go home not being fit for discharge.

The reason that incidents like this occur is that people demand that the NHS is run at near 100% capacity, if there are empty beds, surgeons without lists or theatres stood empty then there is an outcry of public funds being wasted.

So if any organisation is running at near 100% capacity then it is always going to struggle to find extra capacity, and as such difficult decisions will need to be made.

I really feel for anyone that has to sit around all day nervously waiting for someone to take them to theatres only to find out that their operation has been postponed, and they've got to do it all again.

The only point you made was that about your Father in Law, and that was addressed. So I'm not sure where they missed the point.

Utter rubbish.

Yes you would. There are countless examples.

With the NHS you don't have a choice, so they set up inept processes where nobody knows what will happen or when, until it actually happens. They could easily of arranged for him to come in at an hour's notice, but they just don't care, which is exactly why he should complain.

If arranging surgery is so easy, why don't you apply for a job in the NHS arranging surgery? You could corner the market with your ideas.

Im not confused at all. The nhs hasn't forgotten how to care for patients, the country is over populated and yes the nhs are struggling but the fact is we have to put up with delays its a pain but thats how things are unfortunately.

you're father in law or anyone else for that matter couldn't come at an hrs notice the nurses have to do obvs before anyone has an op.

Firstly I understand scheduled operations dont go to plan BUT to the people sticking up for the hospital surely you can see she could have been taken better care of! Its not rocket science! A bed (even a transition one) wouldnt have gone a miss! Also i think well before 5:15 they would have known it wasnt going to be possible but the latter I cant prove. Also if she was that cold i would hope they would have given her more than 1 blanket! So YES i think the way they left her like that was awful!

The biggest mistake you can do now is leaving it and not complaining! Make your complaint constructive feedback about what happened and what would have made the experience better. Without complaints the people higher up dont know and nothing can improve, dont leave it and let more people suffer.

Lastly i hope your mum gets it rescheduled quickly and faces no problems. Next time hopefully someone can go with her and be her 'voice' if she is of a quieter nature. Good luck.

as they need Indian doctors and Filipino nurses, supported by Kosovan porters and Icelandic cleaners:hihi:

how many of these surgeons are actually working full time at the ngh or other hospitals, instead of just filling in when their private patients have been taken care of :suspect:

I wondered how long it would be before some blamed the immigrants.

*sigh*
