JFKvsNixon Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I think we can all appreciate that unexpected events will sometimes throw out a preplanned arranged op, but what is unforgiveable is that a 71 year old woman is left in a hard upright chair, totally ignored for 10 hours. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to have someone on duty who can see that this kind of thing doesn't happen. A more comfortable easy chair, and the odd cup of tea would have made all the difference to her. The patient would have been nil by mouth.

Needing a gall bladder operation dosent stop this 71 year old from talking, she could have asked for a comfier chair and a second blanket.
tokyojoe Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I have nowt but praise for the lads and lasses at the N G H/R H H, but i suppose from time to time things go wrong and delays happen which no one can forecast.

It's sometimes hard to attract a busy nurses attention, especially for the elderly, who don't want to make a fuss. I know this was the experience we had with my mother and father. If you've got family there to support you and ask the nurses this does make a difference. It's the ones who don't have family i feel for.

CURVYBIRD12 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 You say ignored for 10 hours...i doubt that very much....ooh lets go and complain to a newspaper......get a grip....us nhs workers work damn hard and people like you give us a bad name....
ricgem2002 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 This morning after a 12 week wait my 71 year old mum went into the NGH for a scheduled gall bladder operation. She had to be there at 7am and couldn't have anything to eat or drink since last night. No one could wait with her, and we were told to call the hospital at 12noon to see if she had gone down for her operation. My sister had taken the day off work to be on standby to pick her up after the operation. We called the hospital at 12 and she was still waiting. Mum txt me at 3 to say she was still in the waiting room with a blanket around her and she was freezing cold. At 5:15pm Mum was told they wouldn't be able to do the op today and they would write to her giving her another date. She has head ache and back ache with sitting on the upright chairs for 10 hours Mum has respiritary & heart problems and has had the trauma of going in to the hospital, not having anything to eat or drink since yesterday and now the anxiety of having to go through this all again. I appreciate that there may have been an emergency come in today but surely this is not acceptable? my partner was sat with your mum today and was also sent home after also being sat there for 10 hours on friday with the same outcome and she has been waiting for the op since june . please wish your mum all the best as my partner says she is a lovely lady
nataliem85 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 My father in law had exactly the same thing today too (he was due to have his gall bladder out) -after at least 16 week wait. He also went in this morning at 7, and we got a call from him at 4.45 to say he still hadnt gone down, and was been sent home. And to top it off he's been put back on the waiting list so got to wait for another letter! Its absolutely disgraceful, he is 70 years old- had to get a taxi there, wasted a whole day sat around doing nothing, to then have to get 2 buses home when they finally told him he wouldnt be having it.... Told him to write and complain...
