EFCMatt Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 In the process of buying a terrace in Hillsborough. As a result of the floods in 08 there is some standing water in the basement (About 1-2 inches). What would should the cost be to get a pump installed and can this be done without waterproofing as well, or would it all need to be done at once?
mafya Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Buy a submersable pump from machine mart about £40 and dig a hole 1ftx1ft and 1 and a half foot deep, place pump in the hole and plug it in. When water starts filling the hole it will make the pumps float rise which will switch on the pump and pump the water out. This is what my brother did as his basement fills up when it rains.
EFCMatt Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Excuse my spelling in the title (Installation). Im not confident enough to do the work myself and dont have the tools. Also the water needs somewhere to be pumped and would want a professional (or at least someone who knows what they are doing) to make sure its done right.
BuildingCare Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Hi beginning of the year we completed a house with the same issue we used a Product called koster which is a realy great product google it. On the other hand its not the cheapest but you can guarantee you will not have a problem again if installed and applied right the product is a tanking product it either holds water or retains.we recently went back to the house to do some more work for the customer and I checked the previous work and it was completely dry not a wet patch in sign pm if you want any more info hope it helps
dan2802 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Hi, we have done quite a few of these but found the cheap pumps, well, cheap!!! We can did a hole, insert a tank into which a pump with internal float can be sat and pipe away the water into a suitable drain. Would obviously have to see the job to quote!
EFCMatt Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Can anyone just give an indication as to the cost of purchasing and installing a sump pump system? I need to know if we can afford to go ahead and dont want to waste any more time with surveys and quotes if we are not going to be able to afford it anyway.
dan2802 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 A decent pump is just over £100, pipe is dependant on length. What is the cellar floor made of? Not going to get into a price war but budget on £400-450 after labour, rubbish removal etc etc. You can get cheaper pumps but I wouldn't fit one in my own home so I wouldn't fit one for a customer.
BuildingCare Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 For. 25ltr pump with 3year warrantie starts at 190 bigger the pump more it costs.
